There are more than 30 kinds of manufacturing techniques for pigment baskets. According to the big steps, it can be divided into three steps: bamboo weaving, grey work and lacquer painting pile carving. Because the process is complicated and meticulous, most villagers can only master one of the steps. Guo Jinbiao, the inheritor of lacquer basket skills, led the reporter and visited several villagers who participated in the production of lacquer baskets. The raw material of the paint basket is local bamboo. In the hands of 64-year-old villager Guo, bamboo was divided into two parts by a sharp razor, two parts into four parts, four parts into eight parts ... and kept splitting until it became strips with different thicknesses. According to the requirements of paint basket, the thinnest piece is comparable to hair. Bamboo strips are warp and silk strips are weft, which are woven into baskets by skillful hands. Baskets are large and small, including flat baskets, lattice baskets, baskets, boxes and plates.

Compared with the finished paint basket, these woven bamboo baskets are called "basket embryo". People often say that "the bamboo basket draws water with nothing", but this paint basket has become strong and light because of the second step of "gray work".

"Lime worker" can be understood as plastering. Guo Yunyong, a 74-year-old man with 56 years of experience as a "grey worker", said that the soil in the field should be dug, dried, ground and sieved first, leaving soil powder as fine as flour. Fine soil powder is mixed with tung oil to become "putty" There are many procedures for "gray workers". First, cook the basket embryo with lime, arrange the shape of the basket, cut off the head of the basket, and then plaster it on the basket body. Cut out the cloth sample according to the paper pattern, and mount the cloth and paper. The bottom and body of the basket should be coated with fine ash, then trimmed, polished and coated with clear oil and black oil. Back and forth, more than 20 processes, large and small. The pile carving of lacquer painting is the "finishing touch" of lacquer basket.

The painter's procedures are roughly as follows: raw paint treatment, basket body brushing, basket washing, painting, water milling, painting again, gold foil, gold thread, cinnabar and golden flower.

After painting and carving, the "dusty" paint basket became gorgeous and generous.
