Methods/steps:

The effect of making this puzzle is accomplished in two steps:

Step 1: Make the shape of the puzzle first.

Step 2: Complete the composition of the puzzle.

Make the shape of the puzzle pattern

1, as shown in the figure below, create a new file with 300 pixels *300 pixels and a resolution of 72 pixels/inch, and click "Create".

2. Hold down the Alt key, roll the mouse wheel forward and expand the canvas appropriately.

Create a new layer, use Ctrl+R to call out the ruler, use the moving tool to pull out a horizontal reference line from the upper ruler to the center of the canvas, and then pull out a vertical reference line from the left ruler to the center of the canvas.

Click Rectangular Marquee Tool and set relevant parameters in the property bar. For Style, select Fixed Size, with a width of 150 pixels and a height of 150 pixels, as shown in the following figure. Click the left mouse button in the upper left corner of the canvas, so that we can draw a 150 pixel * 150 pixel.

3.Alt+delete fills the foreground color with black, and Ctrl+D cancels the selection.

Click "Oval Box Selection Tool". In the property bar, we set "Style" to "Fixed Size", with a width of 60 pixels and a height of 60 pixels.

As shown in the figure below, click on the right side of the black square to draw a circular selection. Using the arrow keys, we adjust the position of the selection to the center of the left side of the black box, so that half of the circular selection is in the black box, Alt+delete fills the foreground color with black, and Ctrl+D cancels the selection.

4. Then, click the left mouse button again under the black square to draw a circular selection. Similarly, using the arrow keys, we adjust the position of the circular selection so that half of the circular selection is inside the black box and the other half is outside the black box. Press delete to delete and Ctrl+D to deselect.

5. Similarly, in the left position of the square, we click the left mouse button again to draw a circular selection, use the arrow keys to adjust the position, press delete to delete, and Ctrl+D to cancel the selection. The effect after the operation is as follows.

Ctrl+J copy the layer 1, click Edit-Transform-Rotate 180 degrees, and use the move tool to move the rotated graphic to the lower right corner of the canvas, as shown in the following figure.

6. Hide the "background" layer and click "Edit-Define Pattern". Let's name this pattern "Puzzle" and click "OK". At this point, the pattern used for the puzzle is completed, and at this point, more than half of our task has been completed. All right, let's finish the puzzle.

Complete the composition of the puzzle

1, as shown in the figure below, first hide the "Effect" layer, select the "Background" layer, and Ctrl+J copies the background to create a new layer.

Click "Edit-Fill", as shown in the figure below. In the Fill dialog box that opens, fill in Content and select Pattern. In the drop-down list of custom mode, find the "jigsaw puzzle" mode we just saved, and then click OK.

2. Well, at this point, the shape of the puzzle has come out, as shown below, but it has not been merged with the picture. Let's make some adjustments.

Double-click the layer 1 to open the Layer Styles panel, as shown in the following figure, and check Bevel and Relief: for the style, select Buffer Relief; Method "smoothing"; "Depth" is 200%; "direction" [Size] 15 pixel; Softening 1 pixel; The light source angle is 120 degrees; The height of the light source is 30 degrees; Highlight mode: color filter, color: white, opacity 75%; Shadow mode: the positive film is stacked on the bottom, the color is black, and the opacity is 75% (all parameters here are not fixed, and the situation of each picture is different. You can make specific adjustments according to the specific situation of each picture, and the tutorial just provides you with an idea. Click OK.

3. Look at the image again. After adding "slope and relief", the feeling of the puzzle is there, but it still doesn't blend well with the original picture. The black part of the puzzle is still black, which requires us to adjust the blending mode. Since it is to remove black, of course, you can choose mixed modes such as "color filtering, color thinning and linear thinning". Which works better, us?

At this point, a great success! The effect is as follows, the puzzle effect is completed! Is it realistic?
