Smaller leaves can show the simplicity and antiquity of the whole bonsai tree, while some miscellaneous bonsai trees have large leaves. How to control the leaf size of tree bonsai and minimize the specifications of leaves? Besides the most effective way to pick leaves, are there any other ways to plant trees? Actually, picking leaves is a double-edged sword. The method of picking leaves has also been written in previous articles. Today, I will talk to you about the leaf control methods of tree bonsai, combined with other leaf control methods.
1, watershed control
Most bonsai plants use smaller or shallower flowerpots, not only to look good overall, but also to limit the growth and development of tree bonsai. Trees can't get enough nutrients in flowerpots, so they can be dwarfed and their leaves can gradually become smaller.
2. Water control
Before the tree bonsai germinates in spring, there is no need to water a lot, so that the pot soil is kept dry until the new buds sprout and grow leaves, and then the leaves turn dark and mature, and then sufficient water is given. Water should also be controlled once in late summer and early autumn. When autumn buds sprout, keep the soil dry and you will find that the new buds will become much smaller. Dry pot soil refers to the need to take care of it, put it in a cool place, reduce transpiration, and often spray water and fog. If the water shortage is serious and the leaves wilt, normal watering should be resumed.
Step 3 pick leaves
The leaf picking time of tree bonsai is in spring and autumn, and the leaf picking treatment is carried out on the eve of germination or when the leaves grow too big to affect viewing. You should apply enough water and fertilizer before you are ready to pick leaves. When picking leaves, you can't pick them directly by hand. Use pruning shears and other tools to cut off leaves and longer branches. After about a month, the new leaves will germinate again, and the newly germinated leaves will be much smaller than the old leaves. If the newly sprouted leaves are still too big, you can pick them 1 time after giving enough nutrients, but it is not suitable to pick them again in the future. It should be noted that new trees and downhill piles under 3 years old cannot shed leaves.
Of course, many friends will say that grafting is also a very good means to control the size of leaves, but grafting should be divided into specific situations. If you use a knife, it may affect the overall tree potential of the original bonsai and destroy the original shape and artistic conception. Secondly, even the same strain will have the problem of rejection. Grafting may not be 100% successful, but it will also cause dead branches and affect the life of the whole tree. Therefore, I don't recommend beginners to graft rashly.
I'm Juanzi, a girl from the "greenhouse". The method of leaf control that I will tell you today is a supplement to the last book, Wonderful Use of Leaf Picking, which can not only increase the ornamental value of the pile landscape, but also improve the maintenance effect. We can watch it together. Remember to pay attention and praise, thank you!
