Loquat trees can bear fruit without grafting.
Loquat trees can bear fruit without grafting, but the fruiting period is long, which usually takes 3 ~ 5 years. Loquat trees have short grafting period, early fruiting and high survival rate. Grafting of loquat trees can be carried out in March-April every year. During this period, the climate is stable above 15℃ and the temperature and humidity are appropriate, which can improve the survival rate of loquat trees after grafting.
When the loquat tree is grafted, the well-growing branches of the current year should be cut from the mother plant with sterilized sharp scissors, and the length of the branches should be controlled between 10 ~ 15cm. After that, the leaves at the bottom of the branches should be removed, and only the top 2-3 leaves should be kept, so as to reduce the consumption of nutrients and make the loquat tree grow vigorously.
When loquat trees are grafted, plants belonging to the same family and genus without diseases should be selected as rootstocks. When the loquat tree is grafted, a hole of 10 cm should be cut from the rootstock to the ground with a sterilized knife, and then the branches of the loquat tree should be inserted into the wound and tied tightly with plastic film, so that the loquat tree can grow healthily.
When cutting loquat trees in vigorous growth period, 2 ~ 3 times of decomposed organic fertilizer or NPK compound fertilizer should be applied to supplement nutrition to accelerate the growth of loquat trees. In addition, the weak branches and dead branches of loquat trees should be pruned in time to promote them to grow strong new branches.
