The Battle of Hanzhong was the largest battle in the Three Kingdoms period except for the three major battles. This battle was initiated by Liu Bei. It lasted for almost two years from 217 AD to May 219 AD when Cao Cao retired from Hanzhong, and finally ended with Liu Bei's victory. This was the first time that Liu Bei defeated Cao Cao on the frontal battlefield.
Hanzhong is the gateway of Yizhou. Liu Bei fought this battle of Hanzhong with all his strength. It was the battle in which Liu Bei invested the most troops and generals in his life, and it was also the only battle in Liu Bei's life in which he won victory by using troops on a large scale. The battle of Hanzhong included a series of small battles, such as the battle of Xiabian, the battle of Dingjunshan, the battle of Yangpingguan and the battle of Hanshui. I. Liu Bei's side
The generals Liu Bei put into this battle are: Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Zhao Yun, Huang Zhong, Wei Yan, Liu Feng, Wu Lan, Lei Tong, Wu Yi, Fa Zheng, Chen Shi, Huang Quan and Ren Kui. Almost all the important generals of Liu Bei are here except Guan Yu, who is guarding Jingzhou.
1. Zhang Fei
After Liu Bei took Yizhou, Zhang Fei was the prefect of Brazil County. In 215 AD, Zhang He led an army to invade Brazil County and Badong County, and moved some local people, including Wang Ping, a famous Shu Han. Later, Liu Bei sent Zhang Fei to fight Zhang He, and the two sides confronted each other in Dangqu. Zhang Fei used the narrow terrain of the mountain road to attack Zhang He and beat him completely.
After the Battle of Hanzhong, Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Wu Lan and Lei Tong led troops to attack Wudu and Yinping counties. Among them, Wu Lan and Lei Tong led troops into Wudu county, and Zhang Fei and Ma Chao were stationed to argue. At that time, Cao Hong, Cao Zhen and Cao Xiu of Wei Army were on guard against Zhang Fei and others. Cao Hong was worried that attacking Wu Lan and Lei Tong would be attacked by Zhang Fei, and Zhang Fei deliberately let out the wind to break Cao Jun's back road. Later, Cao Xiu.
In the whole Hanzhong War, Zhang Fei showed little performance. Zhang Fei was defeated in the next debate, but there was no record of Zhang Fei's participation in other wars.
2. Ma Chao
In the battle of Hanzhong, Ma Chao and Zhang Fei participated in the battle of Xiabian. Due to Ma Chao's great prestige among the Qiang people and the Di people, Ma Chao also instigated more than 1, people from the Di tribe to respond to Liu Bei, so as to contain the main vanguard of Cao Jun. In fact, the seven departments of Lei Ding did not play a significant role.
In the next debate, Ma Chao and Zhang Fei were defeated by Cao Hong and others, so they retreated to Hanzhong, and Ma Chao did not participate in the rest of the war in Hanzhong.
3. Zhao Yun
Zhao Yun only participated in the Battle of Hanshui in the whole Hanzhong War. In March 219 AD, Cao Cao entered Hanzhong and transported a lot of grain. Huang Zhong went to rob the grain at that time, but at the appointed time, Huang Zhong didn't come back, so Zhao Yun went out to look for Huang Zhong with dozens of cavalry teams, but Huang Zhong didn't find it. As a result, he met the vanguard of Cao Jun's main force.
Zhao Yun didn't panic. Instead, he took dozens of people to fight calmly and retreated while fighting. Cao Jun surrounded Zhao Yun many times, but Zhao Yun broke through and left. Zhao Yun retreated to his camp and rescued his general Zhang Zhu. After Zhao Yun entered the camp, he opened the gate wide, put down the flag and stopped beating drums.
As a result, Cao Jun saw that the gate of the Shu army camp was wide open, and the flag was not visible, and the drums were not knocked. He was afraid that the Shu army was ambushed, so he did not dare to attack and hesitated. Just then, Zhao Yun ordered the drums to be beaten and personally led the soldiers in the camp to rush to Cao Jun. Although Cao Jun was outnumbered, he was retreating, and he thought that the Shu army was ambushed.
The next day, after Liu Bei inspected the camp and watched the battlefield, he praised Zhao Yun: Zilong is brave! This is the battle that Zhao Yun took part in in the Battle of Hanzhong, and there is no other record.
4. Huang Zhong
Huang Zhong was the greatest contributor to the Battle of Hanzhong in the Shu-Han camp, because Huang Zhong killed Xia Houyuan, the supreme commander of Wei Jun. When Cao Cao didn't go to the battlefield in Hanzhong, Xia Houyuan was the supreme commander of the Battle of Hanzhong, and he was also the commander of the western army of Cao Wei. Such a high-level general died at the hands of Huang Zhong.
Huang Zhong mainly participated in the Battle of Dingjun Mountain in the Battle of Hanzhong. At the beginning of 219, Liu Bei listened to Fa Zheng's suggestion, changed the strategy and tactics of the Battle of Hanzhong, gave up attacking Yangpingguan, and seized a highland Dingjun Mountain in Hanzhong. Xia Houyuan was not happy when he learned that others could not sleep soundly, so he led his troops out of Yangpingguan to compete with Liu Bei for Dingjun Mountain.
At that time, Liu Bei's army was at the top of Dingjun Mountain, while Xia Houyuan and Zhang He were stationed at the foot of Dingjun Mountain. Zhang He was in the east and Xia Houyuan was in the south of the foot, which were horns of each other. Liu Beixian sent heavy troops to attack Zhang He's camp, and Zhang He had few troops, so he couldn't resist and asked Xia Houyuan for help. Xia Houyuan gave Zhang He half of his troops.
Then Liu Bei sent someone to burn the antler defense equipment in Xia Houyuan camp, and Xia Houyuan personally brought 4 elite soldiers to repair it. At this time, Huang Zhong led an army from the mountain to Xia Houyuan camp, and killed Xia Houyuan on the spot. Xia Houyuan was the main commander, and when the main commander died, Wei Jun shook, and all of them turned from attacking to defending, so they stopped taking the initiative to fight.
Huang Zhong's slaying of Xia Houyuan was the greatest contribution in the battle of Hanzhong, which laid the foundation for Liu Bei's victory in the battle of Hanzhong. Later, Huang Zhong led an army to rob the grain that Cao Cao transported to Hanzhong. Zhao Yun also went to look for Huang Zhong and triggered the battle of Hanshui, but Huang Zhong did not participate in the battle of Hanshui.
5. Wu Lan, Lei Tong, Ren Kui
Wu Lan, Lei Tong and Ren Kui were ordered to attack Wudu and Yinping counties. Cao Hong, at the suggestion of Cao Xiu, led an army to attack Wu Lan and others. Wu Lan was defeated, and his generals Lei Tong and Ren Kui were killed by Wei Bing. Zhang Fei wanted to contain Cao Hong's army, but he didn't.
6. Chen Shi
In the Battle of Hanzhong, Liu Bei sent Chen Shi to lead more than ten generals and his soldiers to attack A?vagho?a Pavilion Road, which is a throat road connecting Hanzhong and Yinping County. Wei took Xu Huang against Chen Shi, who was finally defeated by Xu Huang, and suffered heavy losses. However, Chen Shi himself survived the battle and participated in Zhuge Liang's Northern Expedition.
Wei Yan, Huang Quan and Wu Yisan have no record of their success in the battle of Hanzhong. Liu Feng went to Yangpingguan to fight in this battle, and Cao Cao specially asked his son Cao Zhang to come to Hanzhong to fight Liu Feng. As a result, Cao Cao quit Hanzhong before Cao Zhang arrived. Fa was the master of strategy in the battle of Hanzhong, and all strategies came from Fa Zheng, including the slaying of Xia Houyuan in Dingjunshan. Huang Quan also participated in some strategies, including the launching of the Hanzhong War, which was also promoted by Huang Quan. Second, the Cao Cao side
Cao Cao's generals in this battle are: Xia Houyuan, Zhang He, Cao Hong, Xu Huang, Cao Xiu, Cao Zhen, Guo Huai, Zhao Yong, Du Xi, and Zhang Bi. Almost one-third of Cao Cao's generals have arrived, and two of his five sons have arrived, namely Zhang He and Xu Huang. Xiahou Yuan is also the highest commander of Cao Cao's western military region.
1. Xia Houyuan
The Battle of Hanzhong was launched in 217 AD, and ended in May 219 AD. Cao Cao entered Hanzhong in March 219 AD. Before that, Xia Houyuan had been the supreme commander of Cao Jun in Hanzhong. At first, Xia Houyuan held his ground, and Liu Bei could not take advantage of it at all. Zhang Fei and Ma Chao were repelled by Cao Hong, Chen Shi was defeated by Xu Huang, and Liu Bei himself could not attack Yangpingguan.
It was not until the first month of 219 that Liu Bei crossed Mianshui and seized Dingjun Mountain, the commanding height. As a result, Xia Houyuan didn't know what was wrong, and he had to come to compete with Liu Bei for Dingjun Mountain. As soon as Xia Houyuan and Zhang He left Yangpingguan, they were doomed to failure, and they were doomed to be led by Liu Bei. Finally, Liu Bei managed to divide Xia Houyuan's troops with the strategy of hitting the east, and then sent Huang Zhong to storm Xia Houyuan from a commanding position.
At that time, Xia Houyuan once again made a major mistake. As the commander of the whole army, he personally took hundreds of people to repair antlers at the front line. As a result, Huang Zhong charged and killed Xia Houyuan on the spot. When Cao Cao heard that Xia Houyuan was killed, he personally lamented that Xia Houyuan was a general in Baidi. Obviously, he was a commander, but he did small things to repair antlers, so he was killed.
2. Zhang He
In the battle of Hanzhong, Zhang He was Xia Houyuan's lieutenant. At first, Zhang He was guarding Guangshi (now Mianxian County, Shaanxi Province), and the Shu army attacked many times, but they couldn't conquer it. Later, Zhang He came to the foot of Dingjun Mountain with Xia Houyuan to compete with Liu Bei for Dingjun Mountain. Liu Bei sent ten elite soldiers to attack Zhang He wildly, but Zhang He couldn't resist, so he asked Xia Houyuan for help. Xia Houyuan gave Zhang He half of his troops, which barely blocked it.
Then Huang Zhong killed Xia Houyuan, Xia Houyuan died, Wei Jun shook, Zhang He retreated to Yangpingguan, Sima Guo Huai and the overseer Du Xi recommended Zhang He as the acting commander to stabilize the morale of the army, and then Zhang He kept waiting for the arrival of Cao Cao, while Liu Bei tried to attack Zhang He during this period, but found no flaw and had to give up.
Zhang He waited until Cao Cao entered Hanzhong, but only two months after Cao Cao entered Hanzhong, he announced his withdrawal and gave up Hanzhong, while Zhang He was guarding Chen Cang.
3. Cao Hong, Cao Xiu, Cao Zhen
Cao Hong, Cao Xiu and Cao Zhen only participated in the battle of Xiabian in Hanzhong. At that time, Cao Hong was the main commander, Cao Xiu was a captain on horseback, and Cao was a partial general. When Wu Lan attacked Wudu and Yinping counties, Cao Hong did not dare to attack Wu Lan, fearing that Zhang Fei and Ma Chao would attack behind him. Finally, Cao Xiu recognized Zhang Fei's plan and advised Cao Hong to send troops.
Cao Xiu was the greatest hero in the Xiabian War. It was he who saw through Zhang Fei's strategy and decisively sent his troops to defeat Wu Lan before winning the Xiabian War. After the war, Cao Xiu was responsible for holding his ground and finally withdrew from Hanzhong with Cao Cao.
Cao Zhen took part in the next debate and defeated Wu Lan with other generals. Later, Xu Huang, the commander-in-chief, defended Yangpingguan and defeated Gao Xiang, the general of Shu Han, and successfully defended Yangpingguan. After Cao Cao retired from Hanzhong, Cao Zhen was stationed in Chencang.
4. Xu Huang
Xu Huang mainly participated in the battle of A?vagho?a Pavilion, and A?vagho?a Pavilion was an important rear passage of Cao Jun at that time. Liu Bei sent Chen Shi to lead more than ten battalions to attack, and Xu Huang confronted Chen Shi, and defeated Chen Shi, which caused heavy losses to the Shu army. Xu Huang made great contributions to this battle. Besides, Xu Huang was guarding Yangpingguan, and there was no other record. As soon as the battle of Hanzhong ended, Xu Huang was sent by Cao Cao.
5. Guo Huai and Du Xi
During the Hanzhong War, Guo Huai was the Sima of Xia Houyuan, and Du Xi was the overseer of Xia Houyuan. They had been fighting with Xia Houyuan, first guarding Yangpingguan, and then fighting for Dingjun Mountain with Xia Houyuan. After xh was killed, Guo Huai, Du Xi and Zhang He returned to Yangpingguan together, and first recommended Zhang He as the acting commander of the whole army. When Cao Cao knew this, he ordered Zhang He to be sealed reasonably.
Guo Huai later became Zhang He's Sima, while Du Xi was appointed by Cao Cao to stay in Guanzhong.
6. Zhao Yong
Zhao Yong was the secretariat of Yizhou. He was killed by Huang Zhong together with Xia Houyuan in the battle of Dingjun Mountain.
7. Zhang Ji
Zhang Ji participated in the debate with Cao Hong at first, and defeated Wu Lan. Later, Zhang Ji advised Cao Cao to move the Bianren to Guanzhong, so as not to let Liu Bei get the population. Cao Cao listened to Zhang Ji's advice and moved more than 5, Bianren from Wudu and Yinping counties to settle in Fufeng County and Tianshui County in Guanzhong.
