There are three main reasons for hallux valgus:
① Heredity: The occurrence of hallux valgus deformity is related to congenital factors, and about half of cases have genetic factors. Metatarsal varus 1 is the main cause of deformity. At the same time, after hallux valgus, the bowstring action of muscles will inevitably produce the force to push the metatarsal bone inward.
2 Improper wearing of shoes: Wearing high heels and pointed shoes is one of the main factors of hallux valgus, especially our female friends. The front of pointed shoes is triangular. When standing in high heels, the front of the foot is stuffed into a narrow triangular area. The hard upper forces the big toe to evert and rotate slightly, while the little toe slightly everts, and the joint between the proximal toe and the distal toe of the middle toe is excessively straight. Long-term compression of toes leads to deformation and hallux valgus.
(3) Hallux valgus caused by various inflammations: gout, rheumatoid, etc. Often due to joint destruction, it leads to outward subluxation, which is characterized by hallux valgus deformity.
