How to grow pitaya
The cultivation of pitaya includes soil preparation, planting, fertilizer and water management, shaping and pruning, pollination, flower thinning and fruit thinning.

First, prepare for farming.

1 2 months before planting, dig a planting hole of 50cm×50cm×50cm on the four sides of the cement column, and apply decomposed chicken manure 15kg, lime 1kg as base fertilizer to each hole, and mix it with soil in the ratio of 1: 1. After two or three heavy rains, the mound sinks, and then the decomposed topsoil is 3 to 5 cm before planting.

Second, planting

The planting time is chosen in March-April every year. At this time, the planting light, moisture and temperature are suitable for the rapid growth of pitaya, which can blossom and bear fruit after May of the following year. Seedling planting is about 25cm away from the cement square column, and there is 1 plant around each hole of the cement square column. When planting, dig a planting pit with a depth of about 6cm on the mound, implant the seedlings, spread out the roots, then cover with a layer of topsoil and compact it hard, and spray enough root water.

Third, fertilizer and water management

Young trees (1 ~ 2 years old) mainly use nitrogen fertilizer, and promote plant growth by applying it frequently and thinly. Adult trees (more than 2 years) mainly apply organic fertilizer, supplemented by chemical fertilizer.

Fourth, plastic trimming.

At the seedling stage, the new buds of the newly planted pitaya were drained and pruned. When each batch of new buds is pulled out to form bud points, all the lateral buds are erased, and only 1 upward-growing robust buds are reserved for each seedling, which is beneficial to concentrate nutrients and quickly grow on shelves. The pruning of adult trees is mainly to cut off the old branches, pests and diseases that have borne fruit for many years, and keep the robust branches that are evenly distributed, so as to promote their germination, growth, development and aging, and prepare for the next year's flowering and fruiting.

Verb (abbreviation for verb) pollination

The natural pollination rate of pitaya is low. Use a clean brush to sweep the pollen of different flowers or the same flower on a clean and dry tray, stir it evenly, and then sweep the pollen on the stigma of the female flower to help it pollinate and fertilize, so as to improve the fruit setting rate.

Six, thinning flowers and fruits

Pitaya has many flowering times and strong fruiting ability. In order to improve the fruit setting rate, when the buds grow to the size of the little finger and thumb, the branches should be thinned, and it is advisable to leave 2 ~ 3 buds per branch. When the young fruit grows to the size of thumb, thin the fruit, and leave 1 to 2 young fruits with full development, bright green color, no damage and room for growth on each branch, and thin the rest fruits, concentrate nutrition and promote the normal growth and development of fruits.
