1, affecting children's face value
Foreign research shows that if you keep breathing through your mouth, it may have a huge impact on your child's face for 2-3 years.
The picture below shows the photos of the two sisters when they were children. On the left is seven-year-old sister Kelly, and on the right is eight-and-a-half-year-old sister Samantha.
At that time, both of them had problems breathing with their mouths. Doctors educate them and help them learn to breathe through their noses instead of their mouths. Kelly listened to the doctor and got rid of the habit of breathing with her mouth. But Samantha insisted on breathing through her mouth.
So a few years later, there was a huge difference in appearance between the two sisters.
On the left, it is obvious that Kelly's face breathing through her nose is still in good proportion, while Samantha's face breathing through her mouth is getting longer, her chin is shrinking back, and she looks embarrassed when she closes her mouth!
When the boy 10 years old, his face is still normal. /kloc-When he was 0/4 years old, his father bought him a chipmunk as a pet. As a result, because I was allergic to this animal, my nose was blocked and I began to unconsciously open my mouth to breathe. Three years later, his face became a typical child's face breathing through his mouth.
The doctor who treated him said that because he had been breathing with his mouth open for three years, his face began to develop downwards and his face became narrow and long. His chin began to shrink back, away from the perfect and natural posture of the past. Because the chin shrinks back, the nose is bigger and the cheeks droop. Breathing through the mouth not only gave him a double chin, but also brought a serious health problem-sleep apnea syndrome.
Doudou, a 5-year-old boy, lives in Gaoyou. Since 2 years ago, Doudou loves to snore every night, and the sound is not small, and grandparents who sleep in the next room can hear it.
Mr. Niu, Doudou's father, said that his son slept in a room with them, and every night around 9 o'clock, the child fell asleep. "The sound is for a while, but it is almost every night, and it is very loud."
Several times, Mr. Niu wanted to take his son to the hospital. But Doudou's grandmother thinks that children snore when they sleep, which means they sleep well and are good for their growth. In this way, Doudou's illness was delayed. What worries Mr. Niu more and more is that since last year, he and his wife have found that their son's facial features are somewhat different.
It turns out that compared with other children of the same age, Doudou's nostrils are facing the sky, which is commonly known as "nose facing the sky". Not only that, Doudou's face and mouth are concave. Ms. Chen, the mother of Doudou, said sadly that she and her husband are not ugly, and they don't know how the children's facial features developed like this.
Feeling that his son's illness could not be delayed any longer, Mr. Niu and his wife took their son to the otolaryngology department of Subei Hospital.
The attending doctor recalled that when he first met Doudou, he felt that he was an "adenoid face". It is reported that such a face shape refers to facial skeletal development disorder caused by adenoid hypertrophy, jaw lengthening, palatal arch, uneven dentition and lack of facial expression. After further examination, it also confirmed the judgment of the doctor. X-ray examination showed that the child's hypertrophic adenoids blocked 2/3 of the nasopharyngeal airway. No wonder children can't breathe well when they sleep, and they breathe completely through their mouths.
Adenoid hypertrophy makes children ugly and stupid.
Speaking of the reasons why children snore, doctors say that about 80% of them are due to the hypertrophy of tonsils and adenoids at the same time. Children's tonsils and adenoids are repeatedly stimulated and infected. Stimulation includes airflow stimulation, microbial stimulation and allergic reaction.
To some extent, tonsil hypertrophy will not only affect children's swallowing, but also cause snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Adenoids are located at the top and back of the nasopharynx and belong to lymphoid tissue. If stimulated frequently, it may be congested and swollen, thus blocking the respiratory tract and affecting sleep.
The doctor said that it is not a day or two for a child to grow into an adenoid face. Every time a child has a virus or bacterial infection due to a cold, the adenoids will undergo pathological hyperplasia and hypertrophy, blocking the child's breathing passage. After a long time, an ugly adenoid face was formed.
Except adenoidal hypertrophy, allergic rhinitis, turbinate hypertrophy's disease, nasal polyps and chronic sinusitis, all these nasal diseases will narrow or even completely close the nasal cavity, and the airflow will be blocked when passing through the nasal cavity, forcing children to breathe through their mouths, which will form an adenoid face after a long time.
Not only the face, but also the cervical vertebrae. The posture of mouth breathing will naturally make the patient raise his head for the sake of unobstructed trachea. As shown in the following figure, the patient's face begins to develop in the vertical direction, not in the horizontal direction, which will lead to the forehead tilting, the head and cervical vertebra leaning forward, and the chin bone deformation.
(PS: Accurately speaking, adenoid face is caused by long-term mouth opening, that is to say, as long as you are used to always opening your mouth, whether you breathe through your mouth or nose, it will lead to this face shape for a long time. )
Not only that, due to the child's long-term poor breathing and brain hypoxia and ischemia, it will also lead to the poor overall development and nutritional status of the child, which will directly lead to the child's inattention, slow response, memory loss and intellectual development.
Therefore, when parents find that their children have been breathing through their mouths, they must pay attention. Be sure to correct this bad habit in time, or it will be too late to regret it when the child grows up!
According to some research data, 60% of children's facial development occurs before the age of 5, and 90% of children's facial development has been completed around the age of 12, but the development of mandible will continue until the age of 18. Therefore, the sooner the child's habit of breathing with his mouth is corrected, the easier it is for the child's face to return to normal.
The doctor reminded that as long as the child is found sleeping, watching TV, staring blankly, etc., breathing with his mouth open. They must pay attention, especially when there are symptoms such as snoring, rhinitis and sinusitis. In this case, it is best to take your baby to the otolaryngology department as soon as possible.
2. Treatment of adenoidal hypertrophy
When a child receives an operation, the first thing is the doctor's advice, and the most important thing is the guardian's consent. Surgery is to let parents listen to the doctor's advice, weigh the pros and cons, and realize that it is good for their children before they can have surgery.
Generally speaking, adenoidal hypertrophy is divided into three levels: light, medium and heavy. No matter what the degree, you should try medication first to see if you can get better. If not. In severe cases, such as obvious breath holding with apnea at night, frequent otitis media and sinusitis, listlessness during the day, memory loss, and changes in teeth and face, it is recommended to operate as soon as possible.
If the child snores but doesn't hold his breath after treatment, and occasionally catches a cold with otitis media and sinusitis, he will get better soon after taking the medicine, and his energy is basically normal during the day and his academic performance is good. In this case, he can consider not having surgery for the time being.
Adenoidal hypertrophy surgery requires general anesthesia and is generally not recommended for children under 2 years old. However, in extreme cases, not having surgery will cause children to have difficulty breathing and affect their growth and development. Even if it is 6 months old, the baby should actively consider surgery. Studies have shown that adenoidectomy over 4 years old has no obvious effect on children's immune function, so I would suggest that if it is not an emergency, it can be considered after 4 years old.
Speaking of adenoidal hypertrophy, many parents are at a loss and don't know what kind of disease it is. Adenoids are the joints of the ear, nose and throat, and they are also very fragile. When tonsils are inflamed, adenoids are easily infected, leading to adenoids hypertrophy, which is a respiratory disease and can also induce rhinitis. Ugly children are also related to adenoidal hypertrophy!
