Making handmade leather bags is divided into seven steps: leather cutting-leather surface and leather back treatment-bonding-punching-sewing-trimming-edge sealing. Taking men's leisure leather bags as an example;

First, cut the skin.

1 Cut out the pattern first and make a proof with cardboard, so that it won't go out of shape after painting.

Use a special pen for leather to draw on leather. If the leather pen is not recommended for vegetable tanning leather, you can mark the leather with an awl or unwritten ballpoint pen.

The key to cutting leather with professional leather knives or art knives, scalpels and scissors is to cut it neatly.

Second, the treatment of leather surface and leather back

Coat the leather with maintenance oil. Vegetable tanned leather has cow hoof oil, and ordinary leather can be cleaned as long as it is clean.

Apply a thin CMC on the back of leather and scrape it flat. I usually scrape with a plastic triangular ruler. Change if you can. Just have fun. After the maintenance oil and CMC are dry, the initial bonding begins.

Third, bonding.

1 Some skins need to be double-bonded, such as the cover. Many all-purpose adhesives can be bonded or replaced by white adhesives.

2 temporary bonding, bonding with double-sided tape, only plays a positioning role. The two skins are punched together, and it is easy to slide off and tear off after punching.

Fourth, punch holes.

1 Draw a stitch where you want to sew to ensure that the hole will not be skewed. (unwritten ballpoint pen for vegetable tanning leather, special pen for ordinary leather. Remember to erase the silver handwriting with a cleaning pen after punching. )

2 diamond cutting-if the punch has various teeth, beginners only need 6 teeth (or 4 teeth), 2 teeth, 1 tooth (or change to a diamond cone).

The diamond chop must be placed vertically, and the impact force should be even, otherwise the front and back sides will be irregular when the skin is thick.

Five, suture

Special twine can be used for leather, and twine is not recommended for ordinary leather. It's too hard. You can use acrylic thread. Measure the thread to an appropriate length (about 3 times the length to be sewn+thread hanging part). The needle goes through both ends of the thread and sews back and forth.

Sixth, pruning

After sewing, check the edges again and make corrections to ensure that the edges are exactly the same.

Seven. Edge seal

Coat the trimmed edges with CMC or leather edge oil. (CMC is thicker, that is, it covers the glue joint, which is convenient for polishing.) Be careful not to let these things overflow everywhere. After drying, polish it with 350 sandpaper, and then apply it according to the previous procedure. After drying, use 800 # sandpaper to polish (2000 # is also acceptable)-if it is not smooth, continue until it is smooth. After finishing, seal the edge with wax or daub, and polish the leather surface with flannel or broken skin until it is shiny, so as to make a beautiful and perfect edge seal.
