First, the pruning time
In fact, honeysuckle can be pruned all year round. Generally, the first batch of honeysuckle is harvested in spring, and the summer pruning is generally at the end of July, that is, after the second batch of honeysuckle is harvested. Autumn pruning is in early August, after the third flower picking, and the last time is after the last honeysuckle, that is, before the branches and leaves germinate in spring.
Second, the main points of pruning
1. Young tree pruning
Honeysuckle is mainly shaped at seedling stage, and it needs to cultivate primary, secondary and tertiary branches. We can shape seedlings according to our favorite tree shape, but only if we lay the foundation for high yield in the future. When pruning for the first time, one main branch is mainly reserved, and then the crown is umbrella-shaped. Then each pruning, compared with other main branches, slowly keep ten to thirteen secondary branches and slowly cultivate tertiary branches.
2. Pruning of adult plants
Pruning of adult honeysuckle is more complicated. Factors such as plant growth, flowering period and permeability need to be considered. At this time, the plants are basically tree-shaped, so pruning the branches and leaves of honeysuckle is mainly for the high yield and high quality of honeysuckle. Then the principle of pruning is to remove weak branches, cross branches, drooping branches, dead branches, weak branches, diseased branches and dense branches, so that the yield and quality of honeysuckle will be greatly improved, and the service life of the plant can be prolonged.
Step 3 prune old plants
Honeysuckle has a long service life, and generally it will enter the aging stage after 20 years. At this time, in order to maintain the yield of honeysuckle and prolong the use time of honeysuckle trees, we usually prune all the old branches on the old honeysuckle, which can promote the growth of new branches and maintain the original yield to a certain extent.
