Babies are actually "born to swim"

We have seen many underwater photos of babies and some videos of babies swimming. Babies can swim with their eyes open and their limbs are very happy. Are they really born to swim

In fact, this is an innate ability of newborns-swimming reflex. Specifically, when the newborn is put face down into the water, he will automatically hold his breath, actively paddle his limbs and make coordinated swimming-like movements. However, after six months, this reflection gradually disappeared. If you put the baby in the water like this again, he will struggle.

By making the baby's skin fully contact with water, as well as the autonomous activities of big movements and big joints, it can gently and naturally stimulate the baby's vision, warmth, smell, touch and balance, so that the skin, limbs, joints and bones are actively and passively stimulated, indirectly affecting organs and nervous system.

Why do babies sometimes "fear" swimming?

Some babies are in high spirits and dancing when swimming, while others cry and make a scene. Why? The key is often not that the baby is afraid of water, but uncomfortable.

Nowadays, many infant swimming pools use swimming rings to protect their babies. Because their necks are still weak and need support, they can only use neck rings. However, if the swimming ring is too tight or inflated too much, the baby will feel very uncomfortable, so choose the right model first. Another, the baby's head is stuck on the collar, and the line of sight is easily blocked, and the water can't be seen, which is easy to form fear. Many experts say that the best way for a baby to swim is not to bring a swimming ring, but to "swim with his parents". In the water, adults drag the baby's hips or hold their armpits with their hands, so that the baby can play with the water freely and enjoy the most intimate time between adults and children.

However, due to the high requirements for venue conditions and related accessories and services, this swimming form is only available in some relatively high-end children's swimming venues.

There is also the problem of water temperature. The most comfortable water temperature is 3 1-34℃. If the water temperature is too high or too low, the baby will cry because of discomfort.

Which babies are suitable for swimming?

Baby swimming is good, but not suitable for all babies. Generally speaking, healthy full-term newborns, or premature babies born at 32-36 weeks, with a weight of 2-2.5 kg, and low-weight infants who do not need special treatment during hospitalization can swim.
