Mother-of-pearl lacquerware is a wonderful work among many gorgeous lacquerware crafts in Yuan Dynasty. The mother-of-pearl embedded in lacquerware can be divided into thick and thin, so it is called "thick mother-of-pearl" and "thin mother-of-pearl", thus forming two series of mother-of-pearl lacquerware. Thick mother-of-pearl is also called hard mother-of-pearl and thin mother-of-pearl is also called soft mother-of-pearl. The artifacts before Yuan Dynasty were mainly inlaid with thick mother-of-pearl. Since the Yuan Dynasty, both mother-of-pearl and mother-of-pearl have been used.
