Fa Xian (334-420) was born in Wuyang (now Linfen, Shanxi), Pingyang County, Sizhou, Eastern Jin Dynasty. According to legend, he was born in xiang yuan (now xiang yuan, Shanxi), Shangdang County, Bingzhou. He is a famous monk in the history of Buddhism in China, an outstanding Buddhist innovator, the first master in China who went abroad to learn from Buddhism, an outstanding traveler and translator.
As early as 399, [1] Faxian and others set out from Chang 'an and arrived in Tianzhu via the Western Regions, collecting a large number of Sanskrit classics, which lasted for 14 years and returned to China in nine years.
Fa Xian and Xuan Zang introduced Buddhist culture into China, which had a great influence on the history and culture of China.
Xuanzang
Xuanzang (602 ~664), a famous monk in the Tang Dynasty, was the founder of Faxiangzong, a native of Luozhou (now Yanshi, Luoyang, Henan Province) [1], whose ancestral home was Yingchuan [2], and whose laity names were Chen Yi (Yρ) and Xuanzang.
In order to explore the differences between different schools of Buddhism, Xuanzang traveled 50,000 miles to the west in the first year of Zhenguan, and went through hardships to the Nalanduo Temple in the center of Indian Buddhism to obtain the true scriptures. During the seventeen years before and after, he studied various theories of Mahayana at that time, brought back 50 Buddhist relics/kloc-0, 7 Buddha statues and 657 Buddhist scriptures, and engaged in the translation of Buddhist scriptures for a long time.
Xuanzang and his disciples translated 75 Buddhist scriptures, with volume 1335. Xuanzang's translated works include Maharaja Sutra, Heart Sutra, Shen Jiemi Sutra, Yoga Teacher's Theory of Land, Theory of Consciousness and so on. The Book of the Western Regions of Datang 12 describes the mountains, rivers, cities, products, customs and rumors of 28 countries that he personally experienced1KLOC-0/0 in his journey to the West. Journey to the West is based on his deeds of learning from the scriptures.
Xuanzang is regarded by people all over the world as an outstanding messenger of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. His patriotic spirit and great contribution to the promotion of Buddhism are regarded as "the backbone of the Chinese nation" and the messenger of world peace. With the spirit of no self, no sentient beings and no immortality, he traveled west to learn from the scriptures, which embodied the true deeds of Mahayana Buddhism and Bodhisattva and crossing all sentient beings. He has traveled all over India, affecting as far away as Japan, South Korea and even the whole world. His thoughts and spirit are now the common wealth of people in China, Asia and even the world.
Jianzhen
Jian Zhen [1] (June 25, 688-763), a monk in the Tang Dynasty, was born in Jiangyang, Guangling (now Yangzhou, Jiangsu), a descendant of the Nanshan School of Legalism, the founder of the Nanshan School of Japanese Buddhism [1] and a famous doctor. He once presided over the daming temple in Yangzhou, and at the request of Japanese monks studying abroad, he traveled eastward for six times to spread Buddhism, which promoted the spread and exchange of culture. On June 25th, 763 (the first year of Guangde), Jian Zhen died in Zhao Ti Temple in Tang Dynasty at the age of 76. Japanese people call Jian Zhen "Master Tianping", which means that his achievements are enough to represent the roof of Tianping culture (compared to the peak, the highest achievement).
