Hong Kong's position in China and the Asia-Pacific region.
zone
The name Hong Kong comes from Hong Kong Island, which is located outside the Pearl River Estuary and in the South China Sea. It also includes the surrounding islands, Kowloon Peninsula and New Territories, and consists of 235 islands. The topography of Hong Kong is dominated by hills, and the highest point is Tai Mo Shan, which is 958 meters above sea level. There are not many flat lands in Hong Kong, about 20% of which belong to lowlands, mainly concentrated in the northern New Territories, namely Yuen Long Plain and Fanling Lowland, which are alluvial plains naturally formed by rivers. Secondly, the reclaimed land located in the Kowloon Peninsula and the northern part of Hong Kong Island expanded from the original narrow flat land.
Although one Hong Kong resident is from Hong Kong Island, the largest island in Hong Kong is Lantau Island, which is more than twice the size of Hong Kong Island.
At first, Hong Kong was a sparsely populated island with only a few small fishing villages. Today, Hong Kong has become one of the busiest commercial, financial and stock markets, manufacturing centers and container terminals in the world. She is also the gateway of the world to China, with convenient communication with all parts of the world. From the small fishing village to the present, the spirit of local villages fighting for survival has formed Hong Kong's unique character. The will to persist is becoming more and more obvious. The convergence of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign cultural traditions has made Hong Kong a vibrant metropolis.
