Fake diamonds polished with glass are easy to distinguish, because they have low refractive index and do not have the flashing color of real diamonds, and people with a little experience can know them at a glance. In addition, a bowl of clear water can be filled in a white porcelain bowl, and colorless glass products posing as diamonds can't see the outline clearly when they flood into the water, but the dark outline of real diamonds is very clear in the water.

Zircon was the best diamond substitute before the appearance of artificial cubic zirconia. Zircon has strong birefringence, that is, it has two refractive indexes, and the two refractive indexes are quite different. Therefore, a very special optical phenomenon is produced. When the polished zircon faceted gem is observed with a magnifying glass, it can be seen from the top surface that there is obvious ghost between the bottom surface and the ridge line. And diamonds, because they are "isotropic", are absolutely invisible.

Cubic zirconia (that is, "Soviet drill")

This is the most ideal diamond substitute or imitation first introduced by the former Soviet Union. This is an artificial compound, which contains no natural minerals. This is because cubic zirconia is very close to natural diamond in refractive index and dispersion.
