Improved ship form
In the middle and late 1980s, China began to develop a new 2000-ton frigate: Type 053H2G (NATO code name Jiang Wei I). The first ship was demonstrated in 1987 and delivered in June/992, which lasted for 5 years. Model 053H2G has a standard displacement of 2 160 tons, a full-load displacement of 2,250 tons, a total length of11.7m, a width of 12.4m, and a draft of 4.3m The power is two improved 18E390VA. Maximum power 16000 horsepower, maximum speed of 26 knots, endurance of 5000 nautical miles/18 knots, and combat capability 170 people. The main armaments are two ship-to-ship missile launchers, namely, triple eagle strike 8 1A, 100 mm /56 caliber double main guns 1, six ship-to-air missile launchers HQ-6 1, four full-automatic anti-aircraft guns with 37mm /74 caliber, and six sets of anti-submarine weapons.
Export to foreign countries
1988, after defeating the competition of European naval arms dealers, China signed an agreement with Thailand to build a frigate based on 053H2 design for the Thai navy, with the model of 053HT, which is called "Chao Phraya class". The operational command and control system of two Jianghu III ships exported to Thailand is 2KJ-3, which only contains command and control function (C2), but there is no integrated data link and communication system. Among them, the first order of Thailand 1988 built two 053HT models, and the second order of Thailand 1990 built two 053HT (H) models (053HT (H) is equipped with a helicopter landing deck in addition to the tail gun). Four frigates were delivered between 199 1 ~ 1992. The "Jianghu III" class frigates exported from China to Thailand have entered the world frigate market with a high cost-effectiveness ratio. The Thai navy claims that its "Zhaopiye" class (namely "Jianghu III" type) is 85-90% of MEKO200, and the price is only 1/4 of the latter.
According to the website of Russian Center for Strategic and Technical Analysis 20 14, the 053H2 "Jianghu III" class missile frigate "Huangshi" (ship number 535) and "Wuhu" (ship number 536) retired from the China Navy were formally incorporated into the Bangladeshi Navy in March 20 14 and March 1 year respectively.
It is reported that these two warships belong to the China Type 053 frigate family, which is gradually withdrawing from the operational formation of the PLA Navy because of its obsolescence. The two frigates were decommissioned on 27th April, 20 13 and then resold to the Bangladesh Navy. They arrived in Chittagong from China on October 9th, 20 14/KLOC-0.
Previously, the Bangladesh Navy had obtained a second-hand frigate from the China Navy on 1989, namely "Xiangtan" (ship number 556) of type 053H 1, which was renamed "Osman" after joining the Bangladesh Navy. The second-hand frigate 053H2 of China Navy purchased this time has replaced the warship with the same name and ship number previously equipped by Bangladesh Navy, while the second-hand frigates Bobcat and Jaguar of British Navy 4 1 class were built in the mid-1950s and have been in service in Bangladesh Navy since 1982 and 1978 respectively.
