Lijiang, a prefecture-level city in Yunnan Province, is located in the northwest of Yunnan Province, at the junction of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet provinces. It is an important passage of the ancient southern Silk Road and the ancient tea-horse road. Lijiang City is located in the transition zone from Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the Yunnan-Sichuan-Tibet Triangle, the middle reaches of Jinsha River and the northwest of Yunnan Province. It is adjacent to Panzhihua City and Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province in the east and northeast, and connected to Jianchuan, Heqing and Binchuan counties in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture and Dayao and Yongren counties in Wei Chu in the south or across the river.
