Barabara dance can be divided into two categories according to its different social functions: one is self-entertainment dance; The second is to perform dance.

Self-entertaining dance

Self-entertainment dance, as its name implies, is a self-entertainment dance. For example; Dances of various nationalities and people in some public places, international "social dance" and China's "group dance". The so-called self-entertainment is relative, because when you dance with everyone, your emotional contagion attracts people around you; Therefore, for the people around you, you have a certain "performance"; Similarly, when others dance, so do you. However, because all the people present are unanimous in dancing for self-entertainment; Therefore, this kind of dance is called self-entertainment dance.

The characteristics of self-entertainment dance are:

1. Dancing is not for performance, but for public entertainment and communication.

2. Dance forms have a wide range of mass, such as: unlimited number of people, unlimited venues, simple and easy to learn.

3. There are close exchanges between dancers, such as hand in hand, face to face, frequent exchange of positions, and round-trip circulation, so that people have extensive contact and exchange feelings, which can inspire and infect each other emotionally and verbally, forming a warm scene that lasts all night.

Second, perform dance

Performing dance refers to a program specially performed for the audience to enjoy. This kind of dance, in addition to the dancers' improvisation on some occasions, generally has theme ideas, plots and characters (roles), which infect the audience through the actors' performances.

Performing dance has three characteristics:

1. Dance has the necessary theme and plot structure. It expresses the creator's intention through the lyricism of characters or the fate of things.

The dance is arranged by the director. Because of the length (time) of music, dancers (actors) can't play at will.

3. Limited by the space of the stage or performance venue, we can also make full use of various conditions of the stage, such as lighting and beautiful dance, to help express the content of the work.

Performing dance can be divided into group dance, individual dance (single, double and triple), group dance, song and dance, dance drama and so on.

1. group dance: it has no complicated plot, but uses emotion instead of narrative, focusing on the expression of artistic conception and emotion. It does not have a variety of characters, but shapes a certain character of a nation through a unified collective image. Group dance can be divided into "emotional dance" and "plot dance"

2. Single dance (single, double, triple): Single dance is a dance performed by one or three people, which is unique in creation (at the same time, it has high technical requirements for actors). It wins with vivid image and unique style, or the plot is touching, the conception is unique, or the artistic conception is touching and evocative, or the implication is profound and memorable, or both. In terms of subject matter, solo dance focuses on the display of emotion and skills, while double (three-person) dance focuses on grasping the plot and highlighting the portrayal of characters.

3. Group dance: Group dance is a dance form that runs through several dances under one theme. Each dance in the group dance has its relative independence and can also be performed alone.

4. Song and Dance: Song and Dance is a dance performed by dancers while singing. It is an art form that combines "singing" and "dancing", and it is the theme and content that singing and dancing express and strengthen from a parallel angle.

5. Dance drama: Dance drama is a form of drama with dance as the main means of expression. It has a complete dramatic structure. Dances in ballet are generally divided into plot dances and performance dances, including solo dance, double (triple) dance, group dance and group dance. Plot dance shows the plot of dance drama, from which people's dancing character and behavior are portrayed. Performance dance appears as a dance performance in the plot-dance in dance.

The solo dance in the ballet mainly expresses the monologue, personality and emotion of the characters. The duet is used to describe the relationship, feelings, contradictions and conflicts between the characters in the dance drama; Group dance in dance drama is a performance dance or dance scene that expresses the mood of the masses in the plot. These dance forms, together with the necessary pantomime elements, appear alternately according to the needs of ballet content and plot, which constitutes the form of ballet.
