The history of using incense in China can be traced back to before the Spring and Autumn Period. In the prosperous Tang Dynasty, fragrance mixing, incense smoking and fragrance evaluation have become an elegant art, and the fragrance culture has just taken shape. The development of Song Dynasty reached its peak, and incense culture was integrated into daily life. Scholars get together, reading classics, talking about painting and appreciating fragrance. Many emperors, generals and literati in the past dynasties cherished incense like gold and loved it like life. Some scholars even lamented that "gathering without fragrance". In his later years, Su Dongpo and his disciples were accompanied by agarwood, burning incense all day and paying tribute to them.
