Tacheng area is located in the northwest of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in the middle of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, and governs 5 counties and 2 cities of Tacheng, emin county, Yumin, Toli, Wusu, Shawan and Bushaer Mongolian Autonomous County. Five counties (cities) border Kazakhstan and the country, with a border of 546 kilometers.
Tianshan Mountains divide Xinjiang into north and south, and the north of Tianshan Mountains is called northern Xinjiang. Including Urumqi, Karamay, Altay, Tacheng, Changji, Shihezi, Beitun, Kokdala, Yili and Bortala.
South of Tianshan Mountain and north of Kunlun Mountain are called South Xinjiang. Areas under the jurisdiction of southern Xinjiang: Kashgar, Tumushuke, Aksu, Aral, Hotan, Korla, tiemenguan and Kunyu.

Taking Tianshan Mountain as the boundary, there are obvious differences between northern Xinjiang and southern Xinjiang. Northern Xinjiang has a temperate continental arid and semi-arid climate, while southern Xinjiang has a warm temperate continental arid climate. The annual average temperature in northern Xinjiang is -4 ~ 9℃, the annual precipitation is above 150 ~ 200mm, and the annual frost-free period is 140 ~ 185 days. The annual average temperature in southern Xinjiang is 7 ~ 14℃, the annual precipitation is 25 ~ 100 mm, and the annual frost-free period is 180 ~ 220 days. Four distinct seasons are a major feature of northern Xinjiang.
