Qiqiao is an ancient folk custom with a wide spread and a long history. It originated from three astronomical phenomena in China culture: Weaver Girl, Petunia and Hehan. It was first seen in Mao Cui's Four-Man Moon Order in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Ge Hong's Miscellanies of Xijing in the Eastern Jin Dynasty also recorded that "women in the Han Dynasty often put seven-hole needles in the building on July 7, and everyone gave them", which is the earliest record of begging for skill in ancient literature. "Begging for wisdom" means praying for wisdom from the gods. Begging means begging, and cleverness means ingenuity or clever thinking.
The "Begging for Cleverness Festival" in Xihe, also known as "Qiaoniangniang Festival", refers to a festival celebrated by women alone from June 30th to July 7th in the lunar calendar. The activities of begging for cleverness in Xihe County originated from the myths and legends of Cowherd and Weaver Girl. The "Qiao Niangniang" in Qiqiao is the seventh daughter of the Queen Mother, that is, the seven fairies. According to the textual research of Historical Records of Qin Benji, "Zhuan Xu's emperor Miao's granddaughter plowed, while the female plowed, and the female plowed and swallowed eggs, giving birth to a great cause". Daye is the ancestor of Qin people, and the legendary ancestor of Qin people, Nvxiu, is famous for weaving, which has been passed down from generation to generation. The legend of the Weaver Girl combined with the legend of the uncle invented by the ancestor of the Zhou Dynasty to form the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, which was reflected in the economic structure of the ancient rural society in China. With the excavation of Qin Wengong's tomb in Dabaozishan at the junction of Xihe and Lixian, it shows that Qin people originated in Xihe and Lixian, so the custom of "begging for cleverness" is an ancient legacy of Qin people.
Xihe Qiaoqi Festival is the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in China. Xihe Qiao Qi Festival began to declare the world intangible cultural heritage on 20 14. Meanwhile, China (Longnan) Qiao Qi Daughter's Day and International Forum on Women's Development were held in Beijing from August 6 to 4, 2004.
