From June 5438 to February 2020, the 39th plenary session of the Olympic Council of Asia announced that e-sports and break dancing would be added on the premise of keeping 40 sports unchanged. This is the first time that e-sports and break dancing have been included in the official events of the Asian Games. E-sports is an "intellectual project" and break dancing is a "sports dance".
On 20211.5, the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee officially announced the e-sports events of the Hangzhou Asian Games. The e-sports events of Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games include League of Legends, the glory of the king (Asian Games Edition), Peace Elite (Asian Games Edition), Hearthstone Legend, Knife Tower 2, Dream of the Three Kingdoms 2, Street Fighter 5 and FIFA Online4. On March 16, 2023, the fifth meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia decided to cancel the hearthstone setting, and set up seven e-sports events for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
On May 6, 2023, at the request of the sports circles in Taiwan Province Province, the mainland authorities successfully coordinated the inclusion of baseball in the official competition of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
