The arch of this bridge has beautiful lines. Longitudinal beams are laid between piers to form three arc arches with high middle and low sides, with a span of 7 meters. Ships can pass under the arch, and the arch reflects the water to form a beautiful figure. It was built firmly and could bear the weight of earthwork and pedestrians on the bridge deck, and there was no sign of collapse.
The deck is all paved with slats, which is neat and beautiful. The bridge deck is 3m wide, with 15 tidal stones on both sides and 60cm high. Fences are connected by watchposts (pillars with heads carved into spheres or animal heads) and fixed with tenons and mortises. Fences on both sides ensure the safety of pedestrians. After getting off the bridge, the railing fanned out to the left and right sides of Zhang Kaicheng, making the bridge head spacious and convenient for passers-by to divert water to the left and right.
The stones used in the above three parts are all made by hand according to the size, which makes the whole bridge structure rigorous, lines concise, symmetrical and tidy, solid and beautiful, and can be called a masterpiece in the history of bridge construction in Heshan City. It used to be an important traffic artery. Fortunately, the construction of Huiji Bridge in Heshan City still has historical traces to follow. In Cangbian Village, Yuqiao Village Committee, Yi Guangfa, an old man with a hobby of collecting, showed an inscription to reporters. This monument was built by villagers when Huiji Bridge was built. It's a little vague now, but some words can be found to record the names and amounts of donations for building bridges in those years: "Tokyo Bangyin 10 yuan, Yokohama Bangyin 15 yuan, Malaysian Bangyin 15 yuan." The most interesting thing is that I also saw a foreigner named "Anonymous" who also contributed 12 yuan of silver. An old man also dug up the Yi family tree, which recorded that he wanted to buy local real estate and advocated the construction of Huiji Stone Bridge. These words show the local people's desire to build Huiji Bridge.
After the completion of Huiji Bridge, it was once an important traffic artery for shaping people in the following 100 years. According to the data, people from Qianjiang, Jiangtou, Xiaoxiang, Longkou, Qingwen, Mumiangang and other places had to pass Huiji Bridge and then flood into the market along the eastern Shandong River. Shaping people have to cross this bridge to transport the goods to Yangmei, Gaoming, Baitu and Zhaoqing. This bridge has been used for about 100 years. /kloc-after the completion of the highway bridge in the 1930 s, people began to take the highway bridge, and Huiji Bridge began to change its role, which was gradually ignored by people. Soon, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression broke out. In order to resist Japan, the local people destroyed the highway bridge, and people took the Huiji Bridge. Now an old man recalls: "Fortunately, Huiji Bridge can't cross the highway, otherwise it will be bombed when it is in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. After liberation, the government rebuilt the highway bridge, and Huiji Bridge returned to its dull role. Its function as a means of transportation has basically been abandoned until today. Huiji Bridge in Heshan City, once nicknamed "Foot Bridge" by local people, was visited in Yuqiao Village. Just ask a few old people to tell the story of Huijiqiao, and they will tell each other enthusiastically and share their memories decades ago without reservation.
Huiji Bridge was once nicknamed "short-legged bridge" by local people, which means that pedestrians walk on the bridge like a person with long feet and short feet. Why? It turns out that the slopes at both ends of Huiji Bridge are relatively gentle. When the bridge was built, seven stone steps were built, each with a length of1.3m. People can't climb the stone steps step by step, but they don't need to cross two big steps. They often take a big step first and then follow a small step. They always climb the stone steps with the same leg, which looks like the gait of a "toe-popping" person. This situation is rumored to be an anecdote.
What impressed the old people most was the prosperity of Huiji Bridge. The villagers said that before the reform and opening up, the water under Huiji Bridge was clear, and women flocked to Huiji Bridge to wash clothes and chat. When the water rises, men and children jump from the top of the stone arch bridge and dive to their heart's content; Under the stone arch bridge, fishing boats and cargo ships carrying chemical fertilizers come and go, which is very lively. Now 73-year-old Li is married to Yuqiao Village in 1962, and Huiji Bridge became her favorite place to go when she was young. She said: "At that time, the water was really clear and the bridge was very prosperous."
