The year before that, in August of 188 1, Van Gogh fell in love with his widowed cousin cornelia, who was seven years older than him, and had an eight-year-old son. Van Gogh proposed to her and was rejected. Cornelia also left immediately and never met again. Van Gogh still hasn't given up on his cousin cornelia, while cornelia's parents say Van Gogh's persistence is "disgusting". In desperation, Van Gogh wrote "As long as I can stand the fire, let me accompany her" on his hand, and then put his hand on the lamp to bake. At last his uncle put out the fire and saved him. But cornelia's father said: Considering that Van Gogh didn't even support his own income, it was impossible for them. Van Gogh later painted Memories of Eton Garden.
A year later, 1884, a neighbor's daughter margot Begemann fell in love with Van Gogh. She is ten years older than Van Gogh. They were going to get married, but both parents opposed it and it didn't happen. Margot tried to kill himself with rodenticide, but Van Gogh rushed him to the hospital.
A year later, at 1885, Van Gogh was accused of getting a model of a farmhouse pregnant. The priest then forbade the villagers to model for Van Gogh.
Van Gogh was never married and had no descendants.
