According to legend, Yao wanted to pass on the world. Hearing this, he thought he had polluted his ears and went to the river to wash his ears. Later, a bridge was built at Xu You's ear washing place. Now Ruzhou, Henan Province is called "ear washing bridge". Broken Bridge is located at the eastern end of Bai Causeway. Among the many bridges in the West Lake, it is the most famous. It is said that a broken bridge was built as early as the Tang Dynasty, and the poet Zhang Hu had the word "broken bridge" in his poem "On Hangzhou Gushan Temple".

The fifth year of Qin Long in Ming Dynasty (157 1) was founded by the monk tide in Cimen Temple. It is also stipulated that only fish and turtles can be placed under the bridge, and fishing cannot be done by casting nets. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, on the first day of the first lunar month, local monks held a grand ceremony at the top of the bridge to release live fish into the river to show their respect for life. The name "Bridge of Life" comes from this.
