Yancheng is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province and one of the 27 cities in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta. It is located in the eastern coast of China, in the middle of Jiangsu Province, bordering the Yellow Sea in the east, Nantong in the south, Yangzhou and Taizhou in the southwest, Huai 'an in the northwest and Lianyungang across the Guanhe River in the north.
Yancheng has a total land area of 1693 1 km2, of which the coastal beach area is 4,553 km2. It has Jiangsu's only world natural heritage-China Yellow Sea (Bohai Sea) migratory bird habitat. The development of history
Before the Western Zhou Dynasty, this was the land of "Huaiyi". In the sixth year of Emperor Gaudi in the Western Han Dynasty (the first 20 1), Du Yan County was established. In the 9th year of Yixi in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (4 13), it was renamed Yancheng because of "saltworks around the city". Sheyang County was first established in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and then Yancheng County was changed. At the end of the great cause of the Sui Dynasty, Wei Che, the leader of the peasant uprising army in Jianghuai, claimed that Wang Li had shot at Zhou according to Yancheng.
It is divided into Sheyang, Xin 'an and Anle counties. Abandoned in the early Tang Dynasty, it belongs to Yancheng County and belongs to Chuzhou; In the first year of Gan Yuan (758), the Governor of Yancheng was appointed to take charge of Chuzhou salt affairs. In Song Dynasty, Yancheng belonged to Chuzhou. Yangzhou Road and Huai 'an Road in Yuan Dynasty. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it belonged to Yangzhou and Huai 'an. In the meantime, Funing county was established in the 9th year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (173 1), and Dongtai county was established in the 33rd year of Qianlong (1768).
During the Republic of China, it belonged to Huaiyang Road first, and then abandoned the road and entered the province. The tenth administrative supervision area of Jiangsu province, Yancheng administrative supervision area of Jiangsu province and the sixth administrative supervision area of Jiangsu province have been established in succession, which governs Yancheng, Dongtai, Funing and Xinghua, and is based in Yancheng.
In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), in June, 5438+00, the New Fourth Army in the east and the Eighth Route Army in the south joined forces in Shizikou, Baiju, and established the Central China General Command. After the Southern Anhui Incident, the New Fourth Army rebuilt its military headquarters in Yancheng.
In the 30th year of the Republic of China (194 1), the administrative office of Yanfu District was established, which governed seven counties of Yancheng, Yandong, Jianyang, Funing, Fudong, Huai 'an and Lianshui, as well as the border office of Lianguanfu. The following year, the border area of Lianguanfu was rebuilt as Sheyang and Binhai counties. 1945, War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression won, and China troops recovered Yancheng. In the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947), Yancheng was liberated at the end of 10.
