How to make bookmarks
Making embossed composite bookmarks

1. Select real-time (fresh) flowers to bookmark. Fine flowers are the best because they are easier to squeeze and dry. Small and exquisite flowers such as violets, violas and forget-me-not are very suitable for embossing bookmarks, but there are also many possibilities. Make sure the flower head is tender enough to be squashed.

If you like, you can separate the petals from the flower head, or keep the flowers intact. Lay the flowers flat on a white paper towel. You don't need to worry about arranging them now, but make sure that none of the petals touch each other. You don't want the colors of the petals to penetrate or stick together.

Cover the flowers with another white paper towel, so that they are sandwiched between two paper towels. Carefully put the tissue (and petals) between a pile of thick books. You can also put them between the pages of a thick book and close the book. You should completely flatten the flower heads to dry.

Check the flowers every week to see if they are completely dry and flat. It may take up to four weeks for the flowers to completely dry and flatten. Don't use any products, such as acrylic spray or hair gel, to help preserve flowers-these products are not needed when making laminated bookmarks.

5. Cut the bookmark from two pieces of laminated paper. These two parts should be exactly the same size, because they will be two sides of the bookmark. Use a ruler to ensure that the edges are parallel and straight. The standard bookmark is usually 2 inches x 6 inches, but you can make bookmarks according to your own needs.

6. Open the laminate and stick them together so that they are adjacent to each other. Using tweezers, gently remove the dried flowers from the paper towel, and then put them on one of the laminates (just cut) in the way you choose. Note: once the flowers are placed on laminated paper, you will not be able to rearrange them. Gently press the flowers to eliminate any remaining bubbles.

7. Add something special to the bookmark. Paper-cutting, flashing (a small amount) and other thin paper decorations can make your bookmark unique and full of personality. However, these are not necessary. Press these decorations gently into the laminate.

8. Place the adhesive side of other laminates face down on the laminates with flowers and other decorations (if any). When you stick two pieces of paper together, press them together slowly and carefully to eliminate any air bubbles. Once glued together, the laminates cannot be undone, so make sure they are aligned correctly.

9. Rub the bookmark by hand to eliminate unnecessary bubbles. Use a punch to make a hole near the top center of the bookmark.

10. Fold the 8-inch thin strip in half, and then insert the folded part into the hole of the bookmark to form a ring. Once the folded strap passes through half of the hole, slide the two loose ends of the strap over the loop. Pull both ends until the strap is firmly fixed on the bookmark.
