Possibility of rebuilding Tuileries Palace
In 2003, some French groups and individuals put forward the idea of rebuilding Tuileries Palace. One of the reasons for the reconstruction is that the square in front of the Louvre is too large, and the Dolores Garden connected with it makes the perspective space east of the Champs Elysé es disappear into the messy square. Before 1883, the spectacular facade of Tuileries Palace was the perfect end of this perspective space. Another reason is that the central axis of the Louvre is not in a straight line with the Champs Elysé es, but forms an included angle, which leads to visual asymmetry (the glass pyramid in front of the Louvre leans to the left) and destroys the overall aesthetic feeling. The third and most practical reason is that the huge space of the rebuilt Dolores Palace can be used as the new exhibition space of the Louvre Museum.

Because there are a large number of pictures about the room structure, furnishings and layout of Tuileries Palace, the technical difficulty faced by the reconstruction work is very small. At the same time, the original furniture, oil paintings and other furnishings in the palace are also well preserved. These items were transported out of the palace shortly after the Franco-Prussian War began in 1870 to prevent the war from being damaged, and they are still piled up in the underground warehouse of the Louvre.

The cost of rebuilding the Tuileries Palace is estimated to be 300 million euros, which can be raised by the public and the construction work can be undertaken by a private foundation designated by the French government. Since 2003, the French media have made a lot of reports on this idea. If the project is approved, it will be one of the largest construction projects in Paris since the beginning of the 20th century.
