According to Qing Bei, Baofan Temple was built in the first year of Song Xuanhe (1 1 19). During the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, it was frequently renovated. It was eleven years in Chenghua (1475), forty-five years in Jiajing (1566) and forty-five years in Wanli.
Baofan Temple faces south and enters the courtyard layout. The courtyard is 82.7 meters long from east to west and 43.2 meters wide from north to south. Covers an area of about 3600 square meters. On the central axis, there are a stage, a mountain gate, a Wei Tuo Hall and a main hall in turn from south to north. The side door is located between the mountain gate and the bell and drum tower, with the bell and drum tower, the East-West Annex Hall and the East-West Wing on both sides from south to north.
As a well-preserved temple in Qing Dynasty in Qingxu County, Baofan Temple has a large scale and complete layout. The stage is located outside the mountain gate, and the bell and drum tower, the east and west side doors and the mountain gate are juxtaposed in a line with unique layout. Its overall layout, structural form and artistic modeling of single building represent the architectural level of the area at that time, and are typical representatives of temples in the Qing Dynasty in this area. It provides a real example for the study of temple architecture in the Qing Dynasty in this area, which has high historical value.
Its wood carvings such as mountain gate, stage and main hall, brick carvings such as bell and drum tower, side door and screen wall are exquisite and skilled; The murals in the main hall are also exquisite works of art, and the paintings on the beams of various buildings are also rich in content, exquisite in workmanship and of high artistic value.
Baofan Temple integrates architecture, murals and colorful paintings, and has high cultural relics value. It basically retains the layout and architectural style of the temples in the Qing Dynasty, and the cultural relics buildings and affiliated cultural relics are true and complete.
Dongyu Town: Dongyu Town is located in the southwest of Qingxu County, bordering Gujiao in the north and Jiaocheng County in the west.
