Dong Da (formerly known as Dong) (about 695-765): a native of Longxi, was a famous pianist during the Kaiyuan and Tianbao periods of the Tang Dynasty. He was a famous musician during the reign of Kaiyuan Tianbao. As a teenager, he refused to study, wandered around and even became a beggar, begging for food.
In his early years, Dong learned the popular Shen Jiasheng and Sheng from Chen Huaigu who joined the army in Fengzhou (now Shaanxi), and arranged Hu Jia, who was good at it, into piano music. Dong's later fame has surpassed that of his two families.
