(Tang) Bai Juyi
Sleeping in Nautilus Island at night, the autumn river is crystal clear.
If the neighboring ship has a song, it will be sad.
This song is followed by crying, and crying is repeated.
There is a woman as beautiful as snow who is looking for a voice to see.
On the independent sail, have a graceful demeanour.
Tears at night are like pearls, and both of them fall into the bright moon.
Excuse me, whose wife is crying?
When you ask a question, you will never say anything.
Precautions:
(1) clear autumn moon: one is "clear autumn moon".
2 graceful: beautiful appearance.
(3) ask a question and touch your chin: ask once and cry once. Tears wet the skirt. Everything is in "silence"
-Thoughts on Reading Bai Juyi's Night Singer
Bai Juyi's Pipa is widely read by the world, but his other Night Singer is little known. But after reading this poem, I think it is more distinctive than Pipa Xing.
Some people say that the language of The Singer of the Night is not as delicate as that of Pipa, but there are some things that should be described. However, I think the beauty of this poem lies in this "unspoken" place. Look at this first place first: "The singer of the neighboring boat is too sad to speak." What kind of tone is it? Is it "Nishang" or "Six Glory"? How sad is it? Is she telling us the pain of her life, or is she telling us the deep sadness and hidden lament? The author did not describe it in detail. They just used Qiu Jiang, the bright moon and river boats as the atmosphere background, giving people a feeling of loneliness. Then they just used the word "look" lightly, but they produced an artistic conception of "how can a sad word be obtained?" When the author heard this song, he "sought the sound" and "met people". After meeting the singer, the author did not use "beautiful" or "moving" to describe her appearance, but only used the word "Yan Ruxue", which is the second "nothing to say". Few people use "snow" to describe her appearance, but the word "snow" used in this poem just fits the artistic conception between poems. "Snow" is nothing more than two characteristics: one is white and the other is cold. So it is used here, which not only shows the lovely image of a snow-skinned young woman, but also shows her sad mood. At the same time, we can see the poet standing in the distance, only vaguely seeing her face as snow, giving people a hazy beauty of "seeing flowers in the fog". Best of all, this third place is "silent", however, she "asks questions, keeps her eyebrows up and never says anything". Why is a beautiful young woman so sad on a moonlit night in late autumn? Are you lamenting the poor life experience or expressing grievances in the boudoir? The author didn't let her "speak", giving readers unlimited imagination. This is the ubiquitous "silence", but it is the ubiquitous "talk". What are you talking about? It was the author's bleak mood at that time. Combined with the background of that time, the author wrote this poem when he was exiled from Beijing to Xunyang and stayed in Ezhou. He is enthusiastic about serving his country, but his official career is down and out. He is naturally full of sadness and vicissitudes: Qiu Cheng has a "cold autumn", the bright moon has become a "Leng Yue", and the river boat has become a "lonely boat", vaguely coming. But who can I tell when I am sad? Who can understand this helpless mentality? I can only silently "touch my chest" in this bleak scene, and the deep sorrow is all in this "silence"! This "self-evident" beauty is an implicit beauty. A few authors seem ordinary, but they can be chewed repeatedly. After a long time, poetry articles full of implicit beauty are like buds in bud. Although they are not as charming as blooming flowers, they have an intriguing charm.
