What is the 38th parallel?
It means one

The 38th parallel is a military demarcation line located near 38 degrees north latitude on the Korean peninsula. At the end of World War II, the Allies agreed to take the 38th parallel of the Korean Peninsula as the temporary dividing line between the Soviet Union and the United States in their military actions against Japan, with the Soviet surrender area in the north and the American surrender area in the south. After Japan surrendered, it became the temporary dividing line between the two regimes of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Both regimes are Koreans, but their political systems are different, commonly known as the "38th parallel". After the end of the Korean War, the north-south military demarcation line was adjusted on the basis of the 38th parallel, and two kilometers on each side of the temporary military demarcation line were designated as demilitarized zones. It is still customarily called the 38th parallel.

According to the Korean Armistice Agreement, the demilitarized zone between Korea and Korea on both sides of the 38th parallel is about 4 kilometers wide and 248 kilometers long. It should be noted that the 38th parallel is named because it is close to the 38th parallel, but it does not mean the 38th parallel. For example, Kaesong, which is actually controlled by North Korea, is just south of 38 degrees north latitude.
