Before gastroscopy

1

No smoking on the first day to prevent coughing from affecting intubation during the examination; no smoking can also reduce gastric acid secretion, making it easier for doctors to observe.

2

Patients must fast for at least 6 hours before the examination. If the examination is in the morning, you must fast after dinner the day before, and breakfast is not required on that day; if the examination is in the afternoon, you can eat light and semi-liquid food for breakfast and fast at noon. Severe patients and those with weak constitutions cannot maintain physical strength after fasting. Hypertonic glucose solution should be injected intravenously before the examination.

3

In order to eliminate the patient's nervousness, reduce gastric juice secretion and gastric motility, expel foam in the stomach, and make the image clearer, if necessary, the doctor will conduct the test 20-30 minutes before the examination. Give the patient sedatives, antispasmodics and antifoaming agents. Patients should understand and cooperate with this.

4

In order to enable the gastroscope to pass through the pharynx smoothly, a pharyngeal is generally used before gastroscopy. The patient must follow the doctor's requirements for medication. Pain relief is localized, limited to the throat and upper end of the esophagus. Before taking the above medicines, tell your doctor about your drug allergy history, that is, what drugs you were allergic to in the past. For local analgesia, 2% dicaine or 2% xylocaine is sprayed. The patient opens his mouth and makes an "ah" sound. At this time, the soft palate and tongue and palate arch move upward, and the tongue base moves downward, so that the back of the tongue, throat, and soft palate are sprayed with medicine. , 3 times. After each spray, the patient swallows the remaining medicine in the mouth to relieve pain in the lower part of the throat. There is also a paste that is held in the mouth and tilted up so that the medicine stays in the throat and naturally flows into the esophagus, acting as a local analgesic.

5

Patients and doctors must cooperate. Before the examination, the patient first urinates and empties his bladder. After entering the examination room, loosen the collar and belt, take off the dentures and glasses, and remove the Lie on your left side, or use another position if needed. After entering the mirror, do not bite the mirror with your teeth to prevent biting the plastic tube of the mirror body. The body and head cannot be rotated to prevent damage to the mirror and damage to internal organs. If there is discomfort and the patient has endured it for a period of time and really cannot bear it, he can use gestures to signal the operator (doctor or nurse) so that necessary measures can be taken.

After gastroscopy

After the examination, the patient sat up and spit out saliva. Since some air was injected during the examination, although it was sucked out when the endoscope was withdrawn, some people still felt abdominal distension. , belching a lot. Because the analgesic effect has not disappeared, eating too early can easily cause food to enter the trachea, causing choking or aspiration pneumonia. Therefore, 2 hours after the examination, wait until the pharyngeal effect disappears before trying to eat liquid food. Within 1 to 4 days, the patient may feel discomfort or pain in the throat, but this does not hinder eating and drinking. Most people can work as usual. Those with more severe symptoms can rest. Drivers cannot drive alone that day. It is best to have a family member accompany you during a gastroscopy and escort you home after the examination.

There may be pain or foreign body sensation in the throat. You can take iodine lozenges, grass coral lozenges, etc. to reduce or disappear the symptoms.

Patients (especially the elderly) who have undergone biopsy should eat a semi-liquid diet within 1 to 2 days after the examination, and avoid raw, cold, hard and irritating food. It is forbidden to smoke, drink alcohol, strong tea and strong coffee to avoid causing wound bleeding.
