Since the reform and opening-up, Party secretaries of six provincial administrative regions, such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangdong and Xinjiang, are generally held concurrently by the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, who is a deputy national level, while Party secretaries of other provincial administrative regions are full-time provincial and ministerial level.
Since the founding of New China, there have been three female party secretaries in China, namely:
