The pruning of tree stump bonsai is a relatively technical task in daily maintenance work. People who are proficient in this can make the bonsai extraordinary through pruning, but beginners often just prun it away. . The pruning work is inseparable from the digging of piles at the beginning of bonsai making to the finished work. When we are preparing for pruning, we need to know what we want to get through pruning? To what end? Only by clarifying the purpose of our pruning can we prune properly and our pruning skills can be steadily improved.
The last thing you should not do when pruning is to simply look at the present without considering the long term. For example, if you only want to look good now, or you only want to take shape as soon as possible, without considering the subsequent training of talent and striving for excellence, you will pruning randomly to create the so-called shape, which will greatly reduce the value, or even cut the work directly, and it will cost more. Replanting branches and cultivating them will make waste in haste. Therefore, if you want to create a successful work and subsequent maintenance work, you must be careful, patient, and careful in the pruning work. The stump bonsai cannot be a failure in pruning and maintenance due to pruning.

Pruning of pile blanks
When the piles are planted on the hillside, they are basically heavily pruned, with few branches and leaves and not many fibrous roots. What you see in front of you are the severed branches and some large thick roots. If the pile base wants to survive and rejuvenate, it needs to grow back as soon as possible, and the most important thing is to stimulate new roots. The newly sprouted branches and leaves of the pile base plus the original branches and leaves are far less than before. . Then, photosynthesis will become very weak, and very few nutrients will be produced, failing to achieve the purpose of promoting new roots.
When I say this, I think it has nothing to do with pruning. It doesn’t have much to do with it. The reason for saying this is to tell everyone that in the first year of cultivation, branches and leaves cannot be pruned. Just keep them. In a state of crazy growth, the branches and leaves grow rapidly, and photosynthesis continues to become stronger, so that the roots can absorb more nutrients, quickly sprout new roots, and regain strength as soon as possible. So, even if the branches have grown to the point where you can't bear it anymore, you still have to control them.

Pruning of different tree species
Different trees have different germination abilities, some are strong and some are weak, so pruning work needs to be targeted. They should be treated differently according to location. For example, some tree species with strong germination ability need timely pruning and bud wiping to avoid the frequent appearance of leggy branches, which not only consumes nutrients, but also creates scars on the tree body, further affecting the growth of other branches.
As for some tree species with weak germination ability, you must be cautious during the pruning process, cherish every germinated spore, move lightly, and do not cause unnecessary damage, especially pines and spores. It is very precious, so take good care of every spore. Never prune the buds without careful consideration. If the pruning is not done properly, it is likely that the branch will not germinate and the shape will be damaged.

Pruning according to the shape
Different styles require different pruning methods. As far as the Lingnan School of pruning and pruning is concerned, pruning must be aimed at maintaining the support branches and the thickness of the branches at each level. You must wait until the thickness ratio between the branches at each level is harmonious before you can continue pruning. Do not fail to do so. Just cut it to make it thicker.
The reason is also easy to explain. As we all know, long branches have many leaves, strong photosynthesis, increased transpiration, and more water absorbed. As a result, the transmission lines of the branches will increase, and the branches will become longer and thicker. If branches are pruned or shortened prematurely, these growth activities will be weakened, and the purpose of thickening the branches will be difficult to achieve. If some are pruned in the wrong season, their growth will stop, and even the branches will shrink and die.

Pruning flower and fruit bonsais
The main purpose of pruning flower and fruit bonsais is that in addition to trimming the shape, you must also consider its To achieve flowering and fruiting, different pruning methods should be carried out according to the different habits of different tree species. By learning more, we can easily find that the branches they use for reproduction are basically on strong short branches and old branches.
Pruning some leggy and useless branches without affecting the shape can concentrate nutrients on those branches that bear fruit, so that more branches for flowering will sprout. The strong short branches that bear fruit not only meet the demand for more flowers and fruits, but can also be used to plump up the shape and increase the tree's vigor.
For the daily pruning work of tree stump bonsai, I will share it here first. Together with some pruning methods and experiences shared before, you should be able to have a certain understanding and mastery of pruning work.
