(1) Bud Carving
Bud carving can improve the germination quality of lateral buds and increase the proportion of medium and long branches. Its application is mainly to form young trees and make up for the vacancy of crown. For sweet cherry, the time of bud carving must be strictly controlled, and it should be carried out when the bud top turns green and has not germinated. It is not allowed to carve buds in autumn and before germination, so as not to cause glue flow.
(2) Choose the heart
Early coring is usually 7 ~ 10 days after flowering, leaving about 10cm for new shoots. After enucleation in this way, all buds can form short branches except one middle branch at the top. The main purpose of core removal at this stage is to control the crown and cultivate small fruit branches, which can also be used for early plastic surgery.
Picking in peak season is carried out from late May to mid-July. Keep 30~40cm vigorous branches, remove the top and increase the number of branches. 2~3 consecutive coring at a young age can promote the formation of short branches and bear fruit early.
(3) twist the tip
After twisting the tip, the branches grow slowly and accumulate more nutrients, which is beneficial to flower bud differentiation. It is easy to twist new branches too early or too late, so it must be carried out during semi-lignification.
(4) take branches
Branches can be picked from May to August. Branching has a good effect of slowing down the trend and promoting flowers, and can also be used to adjust the orientation and angle of the main branches of 2-3-year-old young trees
(5) Opening angle
Young sweet cherry trees grow vigorously, and the bottom angle of the main branch is small, and the tree body is erect and not very open, so it is necessary to manually open the bottom angle of the main branch. The methods of opening angles include pulling branches, taking branches, dropping branches, supporting branches, branching and so on. The most common method is to pull branches. Branches should be opened early, which is conducive to the early formation of fruiting branches, early fruiting and early income. Therefore, from the second year of planting, it is necessary to pull branches and open corners.
