Pruning method
1. When the trunk is bent, the cedar should be righted as a tree, the trunk should be upright and not bifurcated, and the advantage of the central leadership leading the trunk to grow upwards should be maintained. Some seedlings have bent or unsound trunk heads, which will inevitably affect the normal growth of plants. Fine bamboo poles can be used to bind the tender tips of tree trunks, giving full play to their top advantages, and the binding work is carried out once a year. If there are competing branches on the trunk, one strong branch should be selected as the center to lead to the trunk, and the other branch should be trimmed and shortened the next year.
2. Selection and retention of large lateral branches. The lateral branches of cedar are irregularly rotated on the trunk, and the number is large. If the interval distance is too small, it will lead to canopy closure, uneven distribution of nutrients and uneven growth. The purpose of pruning is to arrange the lateral branches in layers on the trunk, with 4-6 lateral branches on each layer extending in different directions, and the distance between layers is 30-50 cm. Those branches selected as lateral branches are preserved and their new buds are protected. For the thick branches that are not selected as side branches in the layer, they should be cut short first, and then treated after being supported for a period of time, and the remaining branches should be properly drained.
3. The growth rate of each part of the balanced tree varies with different conditions, so the growth potential is also strong and weak. High-quality cedar requires that the lower branches are long and gradually shorten upward, and the growth of the side branches in the same layer must be balanced to form a beautiful tree. Therefore, attention should be paid to the balanced growth of each side branch when pruning. When balancing the tree potential, the branches with strong growth potential can be shrunk and cut, and the parallel branches or drooping branches with weak growth potential can be selected instead.
4. Adjust the tree potential of "down strong and up weak". Some snow plants are overgrown with branches, and the upper branches are weak, forming a crown with strong lower and upper branches, which is very unsightly. The reason is that the top of the seedling can't be upright, so that the nutrition is scattered on the big lateral branches below, so that the upper lateral branches don't stretch when they grow up, and the lower branches are vigorous, which affects the ornamental value. The solution is to take back the strong branches, overlapping branches and parallel branches at the lower part and trim them; Spraying upper plants with 40-50 ppm gibberellin (GA) solution every 20 days to promote their growth.
5. Due to improper selection of cuttings during cutting or limited extension space during growth, the transformation of crooked cedar often leads to crooked crown growth. The transformation method of this tree is to introduce branches to fill the void, that is, to pull the nearby big side branches with ropes or wires. You can also graft new branches, that is, in places with large gaps and no branches, graft strong buds by abdominal grafting to sprout new branches.
Cedar pruning technology-Cedar pruning technology
Cedar's head is sometimes damaged or weak, so it must be replaced by strong lateral branches, tied and straightened with bamboo poles or straight trees, and then become the central leading branch. This process is a head change.
Cedar pruning technology is mainly to drain the branches that are too dense, retract the branches that are too long, and supplement the missing branches that are partial to the crown.
