Peking Union Medical College Hospital completed robot-assisted total hip replacement in Mako.
Recently, Peking Union Medical College Hospital (hereinafter referred to as "Union Medical College Hospital") successfully carried out the first case of Mako orthopedic intelligent robot-assisted total hip replacement surgery, marking that Union Medical College Hospital became one of the earliest hospitals in China to use Mako orthopedic robot system to carry out hip replacement surgery.

Compared with the traditional surgical methods, Mako robot-assisted total hip replacement can reconstruct a three-dimensional model according to the preoperative ct scan data of patients, presenting the three-dimensional positioning, angle, size, bone coverage and other information of acetabular prosthesis, helping doctors to make preoperative planning more intuitively, greatly improving the accuracy of surgery, reducing the risk of surgery and the incidence of perioperative complications, and prolonging the service life of the prosthesis.

The joint surgical team of Union Medical College Hospital made a pre-operation plan.

The patient of this operation is a 62-year-old woman with hip dysplasia. Before the operation, the Union Medical College Hospital and the surgical team cooperated with the radiology department to perform CT scanning and three-dimensional reconstruction of the hip joint, and imported the information into the Mako robot system. Through software calculation, the patient's required prosthesis size, bone grinding area, placement angle and other information are determined in advance. Professor Weng Xisheng and Professor Feng Bin of Orthopaedics made a comprehensive plan around the indications, intraoperative precautions, perioperative management and patient prognosis of robotic surgery in Mako.

On the day of the operation, the anesthesiology team gave the patient a regional anesthesia block in advance to relieve the patient's preoperative pain. The nursing team in the operating room carries out site management, equipment arrangement and equipment preparation in advance in the operating room. The surgical team consists of Professor Weng Xisheng, Professor Feng Bin, Dr. Zhu Wei and Dr. Wang Yingjie. After the operation was exposed, the team accurately filed and implanted the acetabulum under the guidance of the robotic arm. Zhou Jun, director of orthopedics and deputy director of instrument department, gave strong support and came to the operating room to observe the operation. It took 1 hour 10 minute, and the operation was successfully completed.

Professor Weng Xisheng and Professor Feng Bin performed robot-assisted total hip replacement in Mako.

After operation, the length of both lower limbs was the same, and the position of prosthesis was appropriate, which accurately met the preoperative planning. On the 1 day after operation, the patient was able to exercise in the field and recovered well. Accurate prosthesis position ensures the stability of patients' hip joint after operation and is helpful for patients' rapid recovery after operation.

In recent years, with the empowerment of artificial intelligence technology, surgical robots have been widely used in various medical segments. Peking Union Medical College Hospital, as one of the earliest hospitals in China to carry out robotic surgery, has broken thousands of robot-assisted operations since the first robotic pancreatic surgery was completed on 20 12. The successful development of Mako orthopedic intelligent robot-assisted total hip replacement surgery further broadens the application scope of robotic surgery in Union Medical College Hospital, and provides good experience for the clinical application and accelerated popularization of robotic surgery.
