Axillary odor, commonly known as "body odor", is named after the sweat glands in armpits, vulva, mouth and other parts secrete a specific smell, similar to the smell of fox exhaust. Because the function of this apocrine gland is the most active under the armpit and easy to be detected, it is called "underarm odor" and "smelly sweat".
Body odor can't be called a disease, but the main reason for patients to see a doctor is that the number of such people is small, the smell is pungent and the social obstacles are special.
The treatment of patients with body odor can be divided into surgical treatment and non-surgical treatment.
Non-surgical treatment
1. For patients with mild symptoms, generally take a bath and change clothes frequently to avoid sweating, so as not to attract attention.
2. Perfume and antiperspirant deodorant can mask the smell that is not very strong, but for patients with heavy smell, they will shattered glass.
3. Injection therapy. Botulinum toxin and other drugs can be injected to inhibit sweat gland secretion and achieve therapeutic effect. The disadvantage is that there is a time limit for drugs, and we generally recommend injecting once every six months.
4. Laser therapy. We use the photothermal principle of laser and its penetrability to destroy apocrine glands and achieve the purpose of treatment. However, due to the high density of apocrine glands, the location of apocrine glands can not be seen by naked eyes, which leads to repeated treatment and still cannot be cured.
Surgical therapy
Surgical treatment is the most thorough treatment. The early surgical method is to remove the full-thickness subcutaneous tissue in the armpit hair area, and the effect is very good. However, due to the long incision and high tension, the proportion of postoperative complications is very high.
Since 1998, minimally invasive surgery has been used to treat bromhidrosis in plastic surgery department of our hospital. While removing the apocrine glands, the armpit skin is preserved. Surgical techniques are constantly improving and updating.
At present, we can use one or more surgical incisions about 5 mm long to completely remove the local apocrine glands. At the same time, it will maintain the normal appearance of local skin and will not leave obvious surgical traces. The recovery time is about a week. In the treatment of bromhidrosis, it also has the effect of armpit hair removal and antiperspirant.
From now until next May 1 day is the best time to treat bromhidrosis. When such a refreshing summer comes, you will relax and enjoy life!
