Cleft lip and palate, commonly known as "rabbit lip", is a common congenital facial deformity, which is mainly caused by the abnormal development of some bones and tissues of embryos.
According to statistics, one in every 700 babies in the world will have cleft lip and palate, while one in every 350 babies in Asia. Severe cleft lip and palate not only affects the baby's sucking and development, but even causes the baby to suffocate or starve to death. Some untreated children with cleft lip and palate can't go to school and receive education like normal children. Not only that, their families are often under great psychological pressure.
In recent years, due to the rapid development of plastic surgery, children with cleft lip and palate can be corrected early and achieved good results. However, experts believe that early prevention is more important. It is very important for parents to master some necessary scientific knowledge to prevent and reduce the occurrence of congenital cleft lip and palate. "Rabbit lips" will inherit close relatives. Congenital cleft lip and palate is a polygenic genetic disease. According to the survey, the father suffered from cleft lip and palate, and the prevalence rate of offspring was about 3%. If the mother is sick, the probability of passing it on to her children is as high as 14%. About 4% of the children born to healthy couples are sick in the first birth, and if they are second children, the prevalence rate can be as high as 10%. Children who are married by close relatives have a higher incidence. Avoid infection and take less medicine in early pregnancy. According to experts, early pregnancy (within 3 months of pregnancy) may lead to cleft lip and palate:
1. Virus infection: such as upper respiratory tract infection and rubella in pregnant women.
2. Drug effects: such as taking antiepileptic drugs, cholesterol-lowering drugs, antiallergic drugs and anticancer drugs.
3. Endocrine: mental or injury factors, such as strong mental * * *, injury in vitro, etc.
4. Nutritional factors: vomiting, anorexia and partial eclipse in early pregnancy lead to vitamin D, folic acid, iron and calcium deficiency.
5. External causes: such as X-ray irradiation, smoking places (active and passive smoking), alcohol (excessive drinking), and hypoxia (anesthesia or altitude sickness). Appropriate folic acid supplementation during pregnancy can prevent congenital cleft lip and palate. The researchers compared 179 families with cleft lip and palate children with 204 families without birth defects. In the study, it is found that women with certain gene mutations will affect the folic acid metabolism of pregnant women. If they don't get enough folic acid during pregnancy, the risk of giving birth to children with cleft lip and palate will increase six times. Experts remind that women of childbearing age should take folic acid in moderation under the guidance of doctors.
