There are abundant amphioxus in the waters around Crocodile Island in Qiongtou Village, Maxiang. According to historical records, it was discovered when Han Yu, the secretariat of Chaozhou, killed crocodiles in the 14th year of Tang Yuanhe (8 19). People have been fishing, but the number is small. Mass production 1945- 1956, annual output 12000 tons. Amphioxus is 3-5 cm long, with flat sides and cut ends, so it is called "gun chamber". He has no head, eyes, ears, nose, fin scales and spine, so there is a local proverb: "Amphioxus has no nose or eyes-it doesn't know current events." It is extremely nutritious, containing 70% protein, a variety of inorganic salts, especially iodine. It is a delicious dish on the banquet table and can be used as crispy fish. Its dried products are even more precious seafood. Overseas Chinese love amphioxus and are known as "homesickness after tasting fish". It is a precious gift for guests, a rare animal in the world and a living fossil for studying animal evolution and embryo development. Maxiang is also famous for its abundance of amphioxus.
