Is Apple 13 facial recognition still useful if you close your eyes?

Facial recognition on Apple 13 is useless with eyes closed. Face ID cannot be unlocked when your eyes are closed and is useless. Face ID uses the attention detection system for matching and can detect whether the user is awake. Even if the user is asleep, Face ID will not work. Likewise, Face ID won't do anything when you're not focusing on unlocking your phone.

Face ID has an adaptive feature that allows it to continue to recognize facial features even after a user changes their hairstyle, grows a beard, or undergoes plastic surgery. This adaptability is accomplished in the redesigned Secure Enclave by applying retraining and deep learning that is not done in Apple's cloud.
