Pruning method of osmanthus fragrans
Do not prune the whole plant

Sustained release does not require pruning of the whole plant, and is suitable for the primary stage of osmanthus modeling in the tender stage. It mainly includes twisting and pulling branches. The former is to soften young branches artificially in the early stage of growth to change the growth direction and adjust the position. Branching is to control the growth direction of thick annual branches by using iron wires and nailing stakes on the ground.

Small pruning

First, remove the heart, remove the tender branches with 3 or 4 leaflets at the top of the branches, promote multi-branching, and be suitable for growing vegetative branches. It should be noted that the branches must be clamped. If you just pinch the leaves, it will have no effect. Secondly, short cutting is the work done on the branches that grow within one year. Retaining more than half of the branches after pruning can promote the growth of buds on the upper branches and promote multi-branching. Then pruning is to keep less than half of the annual branches. After pruning, the dormant buds at the lower part of the branches can be activated, and new long branches or flowering branches may be formed in the future. Finally, the restoration work is aimed at a long branch that has been over two years. Cut off the part that grew in the previous year, change the branch group, promote multi-branching, and effectively control the flowering position so as not to prolong it year by year.

Heavy pruning

This method is suitable for the regeneration of old osmanthus trees. After the first two kinds of pruning, the whole tree will not be greatly affected, but after a lot of pruning, the original tree is likely to change beyond recognition. It can also be used in combination with grafting.
