Your head is crooked? Cervical vertebra fracture causes trouble.
Mr. Li, 53, has suffered from ankylosing spondylitis for many years. A while ago, I went to work to help my colleague pull the vine, and afterwards I felt a pain in my cervical spine. That night, my neck reached my shoulder, and my shoulder pain increased. After seeing the doctor, he underwent a computerized tomography examination. The doctor told him that the cervical vertebra was fractured at the junction of section 6 and section 7, and the fracture was pulled away by the weight of his head, which made the operation difficult. Jane Ruiteng, a general surgeon at Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital, said that although the patient had undergone lumbar correction twice before, the cervical vertebra still had obvious kyphosis (humpback) deformation. This time, the deformation of the cervical spine became more and more serious. The chin is getting closer to the chest and the head is tilted to the right. X-ray examination showed that the fracture was obviously dislocated, and magnetic resonance vibration examination showed that the spinal nerve was compressed, so surgery was needed to save the nerve and correct the deformation. In mid-June this year, after general anesthesia, I put on the external cervical fixator commonly known as halo vest, and then performed a "V-shaped laminectomy" from the back of the cervical spine. Taking 6/7 cervical vertebra fracture as fulcrum, the interrupted cervical vertebra was carefully pulled out and straightened, and it was partially corrected. During the process, we should strictly control the bleeding, and pay attention to whether the spinal nerve is compressed or pulled at any time. After that, in the ward, the external fixator was used for three times of "fine adjustment" (straightening and straightening), and the "best angle" was repeatedly confirmed with the patient, including standing up straight, writing comfortably while sitting, using computers and mobile phones, etc. If the correction is excessive, the visual angle will rise to the sky, which will affect daily life. If the correction is not enough, it will easily lead to deformation and recurrence. Although these patients have stiff joints, their bones are extremely loose, and they are prone to fracture if they are slightly strained or fall. This kind of fracture is often misdiagnosed because of the unclear development of ordinary X-ray, which leads to poor fracture healing, intensified deformation and even compression of nerves. It is suggested that patients with ankylosing spondylitis should have regular rehabilitation treatment to avoid abnormal posture or traumatic falls. If there is abnormal neck pain or clicking sound during physical activity, you should go to the hospital for a detailed examination.
