Hangzhou Bay Bridge is the longest bridge under construction in the world. Located in the Yangtze River Delta, the Bridge is the most dynamic and economically developed area in China. The project started construction in an all-round way at the end of 2003, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2008 and open to traffic in 2009.

The construction of Hangzhou Bay Bridge is of far-reaching strategic significance to the economic and social development of Hangzhou Bay. The bridge is a convenient passage for the national trunk line to cross Hangzhou Bay on the same third line, starting from Zheng Jiali, Haiyan and Jiaxing in the north, crossing the wide sea area of Hangzhou Bay and ending at Shuilu Bay in Cixi, Ningbo, with a total length of 36 kilometers. After the completion of Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the land distance between Ningbo and Shanghai will be shortened by more than120km.

The construction of Hangzhou Bay Bridge is of great significance to Zhejiang Province.
