What is cold work?

The correct name of cold work should be "cold continuous rolling". Its definition is: a processing method that uses cold work hardening of metal materials to improve the strength, hardness and wear resistance of metal materials.

The cold working process is:

Use hot-rolled steel coils as raw materials, pickle to remove oxide scale and then carry out cold rolling. The finished product is hard rolled coils. Due to continuous cold rolling The cold work hardening caused by deformation increases the strength and hardness of hard rolled coils and decreases the toughness and plasticity index. Therefore, the stamping performance will deteriorate and can only be used for parts with simple deformation. Hard rolled coils can be used as raw materials in hot-dip galvanizing plants because hot-dip galvanizing units are equipped with annealing lines. The weight of hard-rolled coils is generally 6 to 13.5 tons, and the inner diameter of the steel coil is 610mm.

Generally, cold-rolled plates and coils should undergo continuous annealing (CAPL unit) or bell furnace annealing to eliminate cold work hardening and rolling stress, and achieve the mechanical performance indicators specified in the corresponding standards.

The surface quality, appearance and dimensional accuracy of cold-rolled steel plates are better than those of hot-rolled plates, and the product thickness is reduced to about 0.18mm, so it is favored by the majority of users.

Use cold-rolled steel coils as the base plate for deep processing of products to become high value-added products. Such as electro-galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing, fingerprint-resistant electro-galvanizing, color-coated steel coils, vibration-absorbing composite steel plates, PVC laminated steel plates, etc. These products have excellent qualities such as beautiful appearance and high corrosion resistance, and have been widely used.

Cold-rolled steel coils must be finished after annealing, including cutting the head, tail, edge, leveling, flattening, recoiling, or longitudinal shearing, etc. Cold-rolled products are widely used in automobile manufacturing, home appliances, instrument switches, construction, office furniture and other industries. The weight of each bundle of steel plates is 3 to 5 tons. The flat roll weight is generally 3~10 tons/roll. The inner diameter of the steel coil is 610mm.
