What should the geriatrics department of Xiangya-Xiangya Hospital learn?
In October of 20021,110, the head nurse told me, "You and Dr. Zhang went to Changsha Xiangya Hospital in Hunan Province for further study in nose and skull surgery." Hearing the news, I am both happy and worried. I am glad that I can go to the hospital called Nanxiangya to learn their superb nursing skills and hard professional nursing knowledge. What I am worried about is whether I can study hard in such a good hospital. In this way, I came to the Department of Otolaryngology and Skull Base Surgery of Xiangya Hospital of Central South University with hope and questions.

First of all, I'm here to report to the head nurse, Teacher Xie. I thought the head nurse would be serious, but she smiled during the whole conversation with me. Teacher Xia also called me in advance to tell me when I could report for duty. That day, she also showed me the amateur life of nurses here and the development history of the hospital. They all made me feel very kind and relaxed my nervous mood a lot. There are also cordial greetings from all the teachers, which makes me feel that the nasal skull base surgical nurse is very kind and warm.

I felt strange when I came to the ward. I feel like I'm back in practice, and I have to re-learn all kinds of nursing operation processes and working procedures here. Teacher Zhang told me the work flow and operation precautions very seriously. An old man living in that era happened to have a poor infusion of indwelling needle that day. After I pulled out the needle for him, the old man pointed to Mr. Zhang and asked him to give him an indwelling needle. Another day, I followed Teacher Zhang to the ward. A family member said that Teacher Zhang brought a graduate student. She knows I'm a top student. Occasionally, other family members ask senior nurses some questions, but this family member directly asks Mr. Zhang if he has any questions. I feel frustrated because patients and their families don't trust me, but at the same time, I also know that this is inevitable. What I have to do now is to adapt to the working environment here as soon as possible, get familiar with various operating procedures and common disease nursing routines, and improve my communication ability with patients. Every patient here needs a venous indwelling needle, and I also need to learn more standardized puncture methods and fixation methods.

In the third week, I really saw the patients who had nose and skull base surgery. Although I read the postoperative nursing routine in the textbook, there is still much to be learned in patient education and patient handling ability. But I know the teachers are very kind. As long as I learn from them, I will certainly learn good specialized nursing knowledge.

Teacher Xie also organizes league building activities to promote mutual understanding between teachers and me. After that activity, I felt that I was not so strange to the teachers, which also laid the foundation for me to adapt to the environment in the department. At the same time, I also saw the different lifestyles of teachers for work and life, which is worth learning.
