Why do cucumbers have deformed melons such as pointed melons?
Common malformed cucumbers in cucumber production are pointed, big-bellied, bent, bee waist and so on. The appearance of deformed melons has greatly affected the quality of goods and economic benefits. The causes of all kinds of deformed melons are not exactly the same. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the causes and preventive measures of common deformed cucumbers in order to effectively prevent the occurrence of deformed cucumbers.

(1) pointed melon

Also known as pointed-billed cucumber, it is the most common deformed cucumber. Mainly caused by the following factors:

First, the parthenocarpy of cucumber is weak, and the female flower is not fertilized at flowering stage.

Second, in the early stage of plant growth, the supply of nitrogen fertilizer is insufficient, which makes the stems of plants thinner and tougher, and also produces pointed melons.

Third, the growth potential of plants is weak, especially in the late stage of fruit expansion, and there is insufficient fertilizer and water, which makes the fruit unable to get normal nutrient supply.

(2) pot-bellied melon

The main reasons are:

First, the female flower of cucumber is not completely fertilized, and only seeds are produced at the top of the melon, resulting in a particularly large pulp tissue at the top, which is a big belly melon head.

Second, plants lacking potassium and excessive nitrogen fertilizer will also produce pot-bellied melons.

Third, cucumber lacks water in the early stage of growth, and a large amount of water supply in the later stage will also produce pot-bellied melons.

(3) Curved melon

Cucumber is not completely fertilized, only the egg cells of one ovary are fertilized, which leads to uneven development of the whole fruit and turns into a curved melon.

(4) Honeycomb melon

The female flower of cucumber is not pollinated completely, and it is easy to develop into honeycombed melon. After pollination, cucumber plants have insufficient nutrient supply and less dry matter accumulation, which is easy to form honeydew melons.

Preventive and control measures:

(1) Balanced water supply in the whole growth period

Keep soil moist, strengthen fertilizer supply, apply more potassium nitrate and plant ash, or spray plants with 0.5% urea +0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate+1% fermented milk. Ensure sufficient nutrient accumulation and avoid excessive drought, water shortage or flooding.

(2) create good flowering and pollination conditions

Such as bee release, artificial pollination and hormone soaking, to improve the quality of pollination and fertilization.

(3) Combined with spraying, the spraying time reaches 2 1 16.

Spraying 1 time to 2 1 16 (melon-tomato special type)+1% fermented milk +0.6% urea solution every 10 day has a good effect on preventing abnormal melons.
