What are the characteristics of peach tree shaping and pruning?
Peach trees are native to northwest China, with high altitude, long sunshine time and strong light intensity. In the long-term system development, it has formed a unique regularity, so it is different from the pruning characteristics of other fruit trees.

(1) has strong photophobia and weak dryness.

Naturally growing peach trees, the growth potential of central branches is weak, and even disappear after a few years, with dense branches and leaves, and the internal branches quickly decline and become bare, leading to the outward migration of parts and the decline of yield. All these indicate that peach is weak in dryness and must have good light to grow and develop normally. Therefore, happiness trees are often used in production.

(2) High germination rate and strong branching.

Peach has high germination rate, few latent buds and short life, so the lower part of perennial branches is easy to be bald and difficult to update. Peach trees generally have thick branches. When the main branches of young trees are shortened, 5 ~ 7 long branches can grow, and secondary branches and tertiary branches can sprout. Therefore, peach trees form quickly and bear fruit early, but they are also prone to canopy, so they should be properly thinned and pruned in summer.

(3) The cutting-edge advantage is weak, there are many branches, and the sharpness is great.

The top advantage of peach trees is not as obvious as that of apples. After the leafy branches are cut short, more new branches sprout at the top, but a few new branches grow below, which is beneficial to the cultivation of fruit-bearing branches. In the culture of backbone branches, there are many lower branches, which obviously weaken the top, prolong the thick growth of branches and taper to a greater extent. Therefore, it is necessary to control the growth of lower competitive branches to ensure the robust growth of extended branches. In addition, when the angle of the main branch is large, long branches often grow on the back, which seriously weakens the growth of the upper branches and provides more shade. It is necessary to clear or control the culture in time to avoid "trees grow on trees".

(4) Strong pruning resistance

Compared with apple trees, peach trees are more resistant to pruning, but because of excessive pruning, the flowering rate is relatively reduced. The shear resistance of peach trees varies from variety to variety. For example, varieties such as Shenzhou Peach are thriving. If heavy pruning is given, it will stimulate them to sprout a large number of vigorous branches, reduce the number of short and medium branches, affect the results and reduce the yield. The growth potential of some open-crown varieties is moderate, and a little heavy pruning has little effect on yield.

(5) The incision is not easy to heal.

Pruning will inevitably cause wounds, and cutting will have a certain impact on the growth of nearby branches. Pruning of peach trees makes it difficult to heal the kerf of shears, and the xylem of kerf quickly dries up and dies to the depths. Therefore, when pruning, try to make the wound small and smooth, and apply protective agent in time to help the wound heal as soon as possible. Commonly used protective agents are lead oil, paint, waxing and so on.
