Shaoyang First People's Hospital is located in the urban center of Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. It was formerly the Universal Love Hospital founded by British Christians in 1906. The founder was Dr. Beifuzhen from the United Kingdom. In 1920, a new outpatient department and inpatient department were built at the current site by Dr. Bijiazao of the British Christian Church. On November 21, 1951, it was officially taken over by the Shaoyang Municipal People's Government and renamed Shaoyang Municipal Hospital. In 1953, the Shaoyang Municipal Government merged the Hungarian Catholic Notre Dame Hospital into the Shaoyang Municipal Hospital. In 1979, it was renamed Shaoyang First People's Hospital.
